I am using Norton INTERNET security, Norton anti virus and have the windows firewall installed would this be enough to stop hackers from getting into my system if not what more can I do?
I am thinking about getting a router with a built in fire wall even though I only have the one compute connected to the INTERNET and use it's fire wall as well.

The reason I am asks is because of the resent hacker attacks on here and wondering if the scum could start attacking the members I just want to be safe

A couple of things you didn't mention.  Make sure your Windoze stays up to date.   Micro$oft seems to be always patching holes that are in plain normal traffic, nothing that a firewall would stop.   The other thing is just plain old watching what you click.  A firewall will let you click things like "Are you sure you wish to install and run Bonzi Buddy password stealing porn advertisment popup software (Y/N?)  I do the computer security for a large bank.  I tend to reccomend ZoneAlarm firewall, just because it's small and free and works well.  Norton is ok though.  And make sure your antivirus stays updated!

The real advantage of getting behind a router is your new IP address.  You'll end up with a non-routable IP address.  That way worms will try to infect your router, not you.  I don't want to get technical.  It sounds like your off to a great start.  I wish everyone practiced safe hex.  -  Joe

The last time I upgraded my software it screwed things up. It causes my connection software to get errors in a couple of DLL files. Thanks, Bill Gates. Yes my AT&T connection software IS up to date.

A router is a very good idea......

If you are running Windows XP then one of the most important things you can do is to make sure that your Administrator account on your computer has a very strong alpha numeric password and that your guest account is turned off. Make sure that any and all accounts have strong passwords.
