Finally took the plunge....
« on: April 19, 2004, 09:47:47 AM »
I picked up my first contender G2 frame on Saturday!   I am primarily interested in rimfire setups (at the moment).

I am interested in putting a 10" .17 HM2 barrel on it for small game (squirrel) hunting.  Any information on when anyone will start taking orders for the HM2 yet?

I just talked to the T/C custom shop and was told they will not be making the barrels for the .17 HM2????

I know I won't be able to contain myself from picking up a .17 HMR barrel to hold me over.   Has anyone tried the .17HMR in a 10" length?  or should I just stick with the 14" for the extra velocity?  Will mostly use the HMR for varmint shooting anyway....

Why do you think it will be 16.25" vs 14?

or e-mail Ed at Eds Contenders at ed@onegoodshot.org and ask him for an application I beleave its now $30 per year and you get a quaterly magazine usually with a TCA barrel offering most times something really cool.
and thats how you join TCA (which stands for Thompson Center Assocation)
I was a member for a long whjile but they sort of fell on hard times in the last couple of year I hope this year they are making a comback with new management and some new blood Join up I am rejoining myself. If you like Contenders or other T/C products its a great org. to belong to!

I had heard they was going to make that barrel for the next offering.  I was kinda hoping for a 10", but then again I always forget the 16.25" is carbine length.  Yea, now that I think about it, I only have one carbine barrel and it is lonely!

In 2002 and 2003 I only recieved 2 issues of the magazine not 4 and i felt slighted and then never reciveed a renewal for the club I think the wrights just got too tired to deal with the org ald let it lapsea bit. when I was a member in 96,97,98,99, there was a push to get 1500 members but last years they were hoping to keep at least 500 members. I really hope the new blood can revive the club to full strength. I think if everybody on all the T/C forums were to join it would be enough to turn it around. so what do you say folks if you are not already a member then please join if you can get someother Contender fan to join. Lets see how many members we can drum up!

I see that Midwest has the T/C Super 14 barrel on their site as 'on order' and advertised as not being available till late October 2004.

Mission Accomplished.  Many thanks to Ed from a very satisfied customer.

BTW, I didn't end up getting the .17HMR to hold me over....  I got a 10" .22LR  Match, a 10" .44 Rem Mag and a 14" .375JDJ to hold me over instead.  Now I'm already shaking and in a cold sweat trying to figure out where my next barrel is coming from.  This is an addiction.   My next will be a 14" .222 or .223 BBL.

I know this is an older thread but was at the top of the forum list. I have a Bulberry 11" in 17 HMR. Super accurate barrel.
I received in november the TCA barrel in 16 1/4" HM2.
One break in session and yesteray shot 5-5x's at 50 yds. with same. Seems to be agood shooter too!

Chris

The problem with your mindset is that you are refering to it as a scratch.  Change to your mindset to calling it a beauty mark.  There is nothing better than a well used gun with some beauty marks from sucessful hunts.  Of course that is just my opinion because I like nothing but wood on guns!
