Your Holy Grail????
« on: January 17, 2005, 05:56:53 AM »
Ok whats on the top of your want list that you don't have yet but you would like to someday???  Whats your Holy Grail of Surplups??  Or if you have it what is it?  Or do you have a want list???
                                                                               BigBill

I have two Holy Grails on my want list(well "3" total) and maybe someday I'll have them.  One is a Springfield Armory M1a(civilian M14 in 308) and the other two are M1 Garands one in 30-06 and the other in 308.  Well maybe a 4th one an Auto Ordnance  Thompson  45acp semi-auto.  Since i don't have any american made military rifles these would be nice to have someday.  I'm not sure if there worth the extra $$$ or not were looking at 4 guns that would cost over 5k.  Like i said Holy Grails.

Well ok maybe i have two more to add an M1 carbine and 1903 Springfield too but there no important right now.  Sorry i have 6 Holy Grails.  I guess i need a job for that much cash?? Oh well!!

Plus I find it very hard to drop 1k or 2k on one gun with me being very frugal then i look at the prices of other surplus guns being under $100 and that means 1k or 2k could buy a lot of cheaper toys.  My Holy Grails may remain Holy Grails for a longtime.

Would like a 27 or a 28 Finn Mosin Nagant. I passed up a Finn 28 last year about this time which I still regret. It was a 28 but I did not know it at the time because it was marked a Finn 91/30. I told my gunsmith about it and he bought it and showed me the sight differences ect ect. Glad he got it but I wish I would have known what it was or I would have bought it. Since it was a consignment gun I could not put it on layaway or I would have anyway as it was only 60 bucks. Unfortunately my mother was dying and I did not want to spend any money at that time. If I would have known it was a 28 I would have borrowed the money. BUT I learned from the expirience not all is what it seems with these guns and will keep looking.

O3's and Garands would be nice but too expensive for me so that is out of the question same with a 1911. WIth the 2 Mosins I have and the three Mausers in different calibers right now I am concentrating on getting reloading gear and components  for them.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

an unissued Ross with original wood, bayonet and kitted out as a sniper rifle.

oh are we going for realistic and not fantasy?

a full wood Ross with bayonet would be easier to find but still cost a bundle. cheaper to buy a bubba and a dewat and make one.

That's an easy one for me for sure - an unaltered, matched numbered G33/40 Mauser carbine.  At a price I could afford, of course......

I want a mint Norweigan Krag.  Given the prices I doubt I'll ever own one, but that's what I'd like :).

Two for me . . .
A Russian (or Finn capture) Tokarev SVT40 in 7.62X54R.
An Egyptian Hakim in 8mm Mauser caliber.

Almost had the Hakim once, as my then-landlord was selling it cheap.  But, before committing to it, I found out it was his daddy's gun, and daddy was PO'd that junior was selling it!  Given the type of folks they were, I did not want to be in the middle of that family feud.

Well, a third would be a nice FN49 - any caliber . . .
(Got a line on one, but need to talk him down a bit . .  .)
