I bought a contender frame made in 1978.  Will the newer barrels still fit it?  I was looking to buy a 7-30 waters super 14" with a new forend stock since mine came with a 10" octogon barrel.   Am I going to have problems with the 14" BB?

yep, will fit no problem. there's been a bunch of changes on the barrel lug but nothing that should effect your using them. See http://www.singleshooters.org/shearer.htm for a break out of the different types of barrels out there. If you look at an old exploded view and a new one you'll see part number 67 the bolt stop screw has been replaced with #99 bolt stop pin and they now use a two pice bolt vice a one piece.
