FWeidner,
I understand your meaning. Now that I've cooled down, I will explain what I got out of what they were saying. I was not really able to glean any sort of good out of the way they phrased their words. It sounded alot like "Good, nature will show them; they should have listened to us, and left this place alone. They got what they deserved." That is more the idea that is portrayed to me. Same thing when those many people started dancing in the streets after we were attacked on 9/11. Seemed so much like they wholeheartedly believed we deserved what we got. So in all honesty, I think they could have explained themselves more clearly, and with more feeling than they did. It just seems that any sort of natural disaster that happens somewhere, they try to blame it on either commercialism, or even just plain human existance there. Or even then, you get those sorts of people who start to blame the U.S. for everything that happens in the world. I too like beaches to be clean; but when they refer to the normal sights seen there during an especially busy time in those areas as :
But some environmentalists are actually celebrating the tidal wave that killed nearly 200,000 people, saying it rid the coastal area of development and other forms of human contamination...It's telling people not to mess with nature, Paradise should be paradise and should not become this civilized."
Those words especially seem hard-hearted to me. As if their presence, and the many different resorts that were there, are messing with nature. Maybe I'm a little too one-sided; or maybe, like many say, we should not believe everything the media says. But if these words are true, then I just don't like the attitude some enviros have about what occurs on Earth. This was just a normal action (like many) that happens on earth, and they start pointing to it as a "Mother Nature fights back" thing. All these people were enjoying themselves out on the beach during a Holiday, and they are calling that as the area being "too civilized." They almost look upon this disaster as a relief, and as a way to prove some strange point I am unaware of.
