It's a private deal with a friend of a friend with a sidekick, std blue wants $125 for it I said I would give him the same as a barrel I wanted to add to my SB2 he said OK figure @$100. It only has been shot a dozen times or so, no scope. It sound ok to me but I was wondering if there was a significant difference between the 2, shootability accuracy handling etc. any info will help I am going to get one or the other anyhow just don't know wich one, thought I would ask.

Is the breach plug offset on the sidekick so it will not work on a std handi, if so can a new breach plug for the huntsman replace it so it will go on an SB2 just thinking out loud :?:

The difference is as stated the sidekick is a muzzleloader only. It can not have other barrels fitted to it as they shortened the receiver.  The other difference is the sidekick has magnum capabilities which means it can safely shoot up to 150 grain equivelents of black powder. The huntsman is only up to 100.  If it were me I would buy the sidekick. Money is the same and you have it right away.

I started a long winded thread in the in-line muzzle loading forum. I posted issues with Sidekick and Huntsman here to get your expertise.

Looking at Huntsman, SideKick, Wolverine 209 and Knight Disc. I liked the feel of the wood/blued Huntsman. Had a better site picture. Thought it was very solid and did not see any play in the action what was reported on the Sidekick. I did not like the ss Huntsman or the ss sidekick. Plastic stock felt cheap. Did not try a wood/blued sidekick

I did try these guns on different days. The plastic sights on the Huntsman looked fine to me. I do not intend to shoot the magnum loads either so capacity is not an issue.

I was thinking I preferred the Huntsman because of the shorter barrel and therefore would like the 24" wood/blued Sidekick. Unfortunately I cannot try one out but have to buy it. Does anybody's Huntsman have any play in the action as reported on the sidekick? I was thinking the Huntsman and Sidekick were comparable on quality (except plastic sights) and accuracy which I guess is my main concern. Would appreciate opinions on which of the above rifles you would buy. Good deals everywhere.  thank you.

I guess it depends. If you are shooting whitetails at under 75 yards, then the 24 barrel is fine.  If you intend to hunt out to 150 yards, then the the 26 is the way to go for sure - no matter what loads that you shoot as you will get complete burns.  A 24" barrel is really more like 23" usable, so even shooting 90 grains, you prob won't get complete burn.  The more particulate matter that goes down the barrel ( powder unburned included), the more kick and if you can't burn it, it does no darned good.  I am not a huge fan of case hardened frames as the one I have on my cap and ball revolver seems to ding a bit too easily.  You are right about the synth stocks - they all feel cheap to me too, but if you ever used one in the field, you would appreciate it.  I have a Nova 12 GA with synth stock and I agree that is is not as attractive, but it takes a beating.  I got the ss/synth sidekick and love it.  I went to the desert today and shot out to 100 yards with 110 grn pyrodex rs and 300 grn xtp sabots with no bench and wind and still kept them under 3" with the stock sights.  The balence is great on it.  I did have to move the rear sight as far towards the reciever as possible ( moved it to one of the pre-drilled scope holes)to get it to print on target at 100, but I plan on switching to a peep or scope anyways.

huntsman, sidekick, wolverine 209, Knight disc, what would you buy

 In my humble opinion
1. Price-------------------------I like Huntsman ( cost less)
2. sights------------------------I like Huntsman ( Sidekick best, I use scope)
3. 150 gr. capability-----------I like Huntsman ( I don't need in my woods)
4. accessory barrels-----------I like Huntsman ( 20+ to choose from)
5. handling (barrel length)----I like Huntsman ( Sidekick is also nice)
6. 4473 form--- -----------I like Sidekick ( not classified as firearm)

FYI: Although the sites are of better quality on the Sidekick, they are hidden by the hammer when in the un-cocked ( safe) position, unlike the Huntsman which are visible at all times, unless HR/NEF decides to make Huntsman with the new sights also.

I did buy the Huntsman!!!!  There is nothing wrong with the Sidekick and I would have been pleased with either.

The Huntsman (116.00+5.00 4473 form) was approx. 24% less cost then the Sidekick (159.00).   Expensive price for a dozen of corn

Thanks for the replies I was already too far gone when I wrote the post.  I bought  a Huntsman at a gun dealer for $140 today. I could of got it cheaper at Walmart $129 but the unpleasant experience of ordering my TDC last November convinced me the extra cost was worth it to avoid untrained salespeople in internet sales, weeks of wait when your gun was already there but they didn't know why it was sent to them, waiting at sporting goods, customers service, layaway, sporting goods and finally layaway, being treated as a criminal when you receive the gun, scratches on the gun before I touched it and dealing with sales people with no experience with guns.  It was a very pleasant experience buying from the gun dealer. I got to try out several muzzleloaders and they were helpful. Worth the extra cost. Will give reports on how I do with it.
