factory versus custom barrel
« on: January 14, 2005, 10:12:09 AM »
I called my local dealer and they have the Encore frame in stock but not the complete pistol.  They would have to special order the barrel I want for it from the factory (7mm-08).

Since I would have to order a barrel anyway.  What has your experience been with the accuracy of the factory manufactured barrels or should I order a custom barrel from Bullberry or OTT?

Thanks

Factory barrels are just fine. The only reason I see to order a custom job is just that. CUSTOM! Some thing not offered by the factory. But thats just me.   KN

Call Ed's TC (an advertiser on this forum).  He can probably fix you up with about any barrel you want at a very reasonable price.  He is geat to deal with and extremely fast delivery.   Go to Home page on this forum and look at top of page for list of advertisers and click on his name.  Suggest you use phone call instead of email as it gets better response time.

factory versus custom barrel

out of the 10 or so factory barrels i've been associated with, all have performed excellent, with accuracy rivaling any factory rifle i've shot. they should perform just fine for hunting, and informal target shooting. tailoring a specific load for the barrel can produce great accuracy.

custom barrels are for chamberings you can't get in a factory configuration..........for getting EXACTLY what you want in length, twist rate, or case dimesions etc. you have many choices when ordering custom.

i would expect a custom to be slightly more accurate, but what you do with the loads would be a more determining factor imo. depends on it's intended use. in a hunting situation.....you'd hard pressed to see a difference.

a custom barrel made to your specs, has a certain amount of "cool factor" though....... 8)

for a "first barrel" in 7-08........i'd go with a factory model, then add a custom chambered target/varmint barrel later. you WILL need another barrel
........but then again you could order a OTT 7-08 ackley improved that would provide added fun, and a lil more "cool factor".
