« on: January 26, 2005, 06:52:26 PM »

Will, are you sure that you really want to open this can of worms???

If you weighed it at 40 grains, it is 40 grains.  If you drill a hole in an antler tip that holds that pan of powder exactly then thats a 40 grain  measure.  When you change powder, there is probably some small difference in density so when you fill the horn tip measure exactly the same, then that's 40 grains of powder even when you poure it on the scale and it measures 41.
Some folks will tell you that you have to use the volume measure others will tell you you have to use the scale.
For what it's worth, I've had my best results with volume measures.

Thanks Butler, It's more out of curiosity than any thing else.  I use volume powder measures, but check amount with weight scales.

I remember reading somewhere that BP was measured by volume, not weight and was wondering how close volume was to weight.  Seems like it's pretty close.

Butler said it as plain as it can be.
I dip my powder with dippers I make from 1/2"copper tubing. Once I find the compression I need I cut the pipe and mark it for the case I use.
I cant find a dimes differents in ES then weighing the load.

Thanks, The only reason I weigh is to set up my powder measure since I load for a couple differant rounds and to get consistancy.  The actual "precise" amount is just a curiosity, I haven't noticed a differance when talking a couple of grains one way or the other, specialy in the larger caliburs.
