Looking for a accurate load for Encore 7mm Rem. Mag.
« on: February 03, 2003, 04:29:54 PM »
 Hello guys and maybe gals. I have just found this sight and its a good thing to. I have a encore chambered in 7mm RM and I am looking for a good load to shoot in it, I load my own Ammo. T/C sent a letter to me with this new barrel saying that they shot 2 five shot groups with a cool down between the two and got .5 inchs with these groups. They sent the top of a Winchester Factory bullet box with this barrel also, the bullets were the 175 gr. Winchester Power-Points. I myself don't want to shoot a bullet that wieghs this much I would like to stay somewhere between 140 to a 165 grain bullet. What little shooting that I have done with this so far has not produced any satisfing groups. Could this be because the barrel is new? If so, why did T/C get such good groups. I have tried some Sierra 175 gr. and they didn't group worth nothing. I have also tried some Speer GS 160grs. they were a little better, also some sierra 150 gr.BT's, some Barns X's 160 grs. Anyway, a few more that didn't shoot very well. So if any of you guys have a good load for this caliber and don't mind sharing it, I would be truely grateful. Thanks, Robert
Please include the over all length of the rounds that you loaded. I have been told conflicting stories about seating depths. Thanks

 Thanks for the reply. So far all the rounds that I have made I have seated about ten thousands off the lands. I was told by T/C that if I seated the bullets according to the specs. that they would do fine in the accuracy department. Now I have always been told that the closer to the lands the better and have found this to be true with my bolt action rifles. The loads that I have already tried have been these:
175 gr. Sierra Boat tail 62.4 grs. Imr 4831, Rem. 9 1/2 primers, Oval 3,320
160 gr. Sierra Boat tail 56.8 grs. Imr 4350, Rem. 9 1/2 primers, Oval 3,278
160 gr. Speer GrandS. 56.8 grs. Imr 4350, Rem. 9 1/2 primers, Oval 3,252
150 gr. Nosler Partition 61.0 grs. Imr 4831, Rem. 9 1/2 primers, Oval 3,295 (most accurate load in Nosler Manual)
150 gr. Nosler Partition 64.0 grs. Imr 4831, Rem. 9 1/2 primers, Oval 3,295
These next 10 rounds I have loaded but haven't shot yet:
175 gr. Sierra Boat tail 62.3 grs. H4831, Rem. 9 1/2 primers, Oval 3,320
(most accurate load according to Sierra Manual)
160 gr. Barnes X bullet 56.8 grs. Imr 4350, Rem. 9 1/2 primers, Oval 3,258.
I made five rounds of each of these cominations. I like to shoot 5 shot groups. Thanks

Charges
« Reply #2 on: February 04, 2003, 01:01:28 AM »
Ok let me see if I can try to give you the answer that you are looking for. Each bullet type I only used that one particular charge. Example: The Sierra 175 gr. SBT with 62.4 grs. is four grains shy of being the maximum for that charge. You are saying that  take one particular grain of bullet and make several different charges with the same powder right? To clean the barrel I used Butchs bore shine between each group and  with each five shot group I started out with a clean cold barrel, this is where it has got me puzzled.  Take for example the 150 gr. Nosler Partion round that I shot. The first shot with this bullet was exactly two inchs high and 1/2 in. to the right from the bullseye then the next shot was right at 3 inches lower and one inch further to the right from the first shot and the other three shots grouped high/low in the area of the second shot avereging 1 in. to three inches apart. I noticed with each different bullet that this gun shot the first shot was high with a clean cold barrel and as the barrel fouled and warmed up the point of impact would drop and go to the right. I hope you can make sense of this, that is the way I have tried to explain it. I am thinking that I should pick one certian grian/type bullet and one certain powder and play with the charges. Do you think?  :?
