old Press
« on: January 14, 2005, 02:02:47 AM »
I had a friend give me an old reloading press.  It is made by Krupp and is a heavy made press.  It has a weird looking shell holder.  Anyone ever heard of this press?  Anyone know where to get a shell holder for a .38 special to fit it?

It is about 7/8" long and 1" wide at the widest part.  I will try to post a picture.

I really appreciate any information.

That looks like a shell holder for the old "Herters" press. You can make an adapter to use the standard shell holders from a RCBS ram.

CH makes an adapter for the Herters. Better yet, CH makes something they call "the universal ram" that takes standard shellholders. Here's a chance to see just how universal it is. If it ain't, send it back.

RCBS Adapter

I saw that RCBS makes a shellholder adapter for a Herter's press so that you can use RCBS shellholders.  I have looked at the pictures and believe that this press is just like a Herter's but stamped Krupp American.

Are RCBS shellholders interchangable with Lee holders or will I need to buy RCBS shellholders only?

Thanks

Contact the RCBS customer service - IMHO some of the best people in the business.  Ask about product # 99200 (I think) which is the shellholder adapter that you need.  I makes the case stand a little further away/taller than an "original" holder, but it works well.  I have an old Lachmiller press that I used along with the adapter to load my 300 WM, and it worked very well.

All in all, total price including shipping was under 25 bucks.  A lot less than a new press, so it gave me more money to spend elsewhere.....
