question for you duracoat users?
« on: January 17, 2005, 03:25:50 PM »
just finished coating my rem. 700 and handi  barrels and actions in duracoat. it seems to have went on real easy. just like they said, it was dry to the touch in an hour or so. i did make the mistake of letting the barrel of my 700 touch the edge of my bench and it put the slightest little mark on it. still looks pretty good for my first time. how long has it been before you that have used duracoat, waited before bolting everything back up? it says full cure time is 3-6 weeks. i'm really in no hurry just curious if bolting it back up and putting it in my guncase will harm it?

I usually wait 3-5 days before I put everything back together. Then I let the firearm sit 4-6 weeks before any heavy use. This is with no heat used to cure the DuraCoat. MI VHNTR

I usually try to wait a few days before reassembly. Although it is not required, I usually use heat as more often than not I am working with multiple colors. It has been my experience that it takes a good 30 days before you get a real good "set" on the finish. If you've got the time to wait before assembling, by all means let it set. Congrats on your first project!!!
