Is there a thread existing for comparing the features of climbing stands?
I am in the market for a new one and being  a big guy like lots of room. As well I don't care for the exciting rush of always being ready to fall out due to design, pitch etc. I have the square tubed tree lounge, API chair style, and such. Looking for a more user friendly easy to set up model.
Anyone have their favorite models & why?

I have a Grand Ol' Man multivision.  Its rated for 350 (cuz at the time I was pushing the 300 weight limit of the regular Ol Man  :oops: ) and is pretty roomy for my....um.....large posterior.  Whats nice is it comes with two rails.  One is a shooting rail that, when turned the other way, can be used as a foot rest.  The other is a straight rail so you still get that feeling of safety (for those who dont think man was meant to be in hunks o metal strapped to a tree.)  You can also use it open front for bowhunting.  It has three points for attatching to a tree.  The cable, the gripping teeth, and a saftey strap that goes around the front that when clipped will prevent the stand from tiliting when you move and preventing any kind of slipping.  But its like any climber in that it takes time to set up (unlike an already set ladder stand or hang on.)  And its a bit heavy depending on the configuration.  But ascending is pretty staright forward and easy.  I usually spend more time in set-up and draggin all my gear up and prepping than I do climbing.

i got the x4 viper love the thing,
summits body harness is the best thing known to man. fell out of a tree 5 times in it.... mind you i wasent hunting, triming tree branchs for the mother in law an by the way im scared of heights but once i fell off the branch the first time i was hooked 3 months later i was 20 feet in the air in that stand lol

I have a summit xtream abd I bow hunt from it all the time.

I have been looking at the golith but summit wont tell me how much wider the golith is over my xtream.

I'm thinking of getting Summit's Cobra. Can't find it in any of the catalogs, but I'm sure I'll find it somewhere. Like New Hampshire said, some of us aren't that thrilled hanging from a tree (like myself, I can handle it but let's say I'm not a big fan of it).  :D

New Hampshire I agree! I usually set the climber on the tree a day or two before I wish to hunt the area. The possibility of theft is always a concern but what can you do?

We had a guy we met out in the main area we hunted this year.  He had just bought a Wallyworld special climber.  He picked out a tree and locked the stand to it.  He hunted almost every day in the morning, left for most of the afternoon, and returned late evening (he was a Realtor.)  He shifted spots a couple of times, but always locked it to the tree.  Considering we were about 2 minutes from the busiest street in the biggest city in New Hampshire he didnt have anyone mess with his stand.  Ive considered trying the same idea, but sometimes I get a little antsy and wont spend more than one day in a specific tree.  The set-up can just be a killer sometimes, especially in the dark  :) .  Ive seen some of the Summits.  Nice looking stands.

summits are very quick and easy to set up even in the dark.
I  leave my stand lock to the tree i hunt from but I hunt on a private farm and am in it almost every morning and afternoon.
I hunt from the same tree for about 4 days If i keep seeing deer around me I 2will stay put but if i dont see any deeer or they stop showing up I will move

Glad to hear good things about the Summit stands. My Goliath X4 should be here tomorrow. Have two more weekends in Florida to try it out before deer season closes.

Do me a faver will you?

When you stand gets in would you mesure the inside of the top part of the stand?
I want to know if it is wider them my xtream and if it is by how much.
I love mine but it is a little small when I put on my winter clothing.

The width is 21 1/2" wide on the top piece. The depth is 27" metal to metal.

i have a summit viper xls for my gun hunting ansd a summit clearshot for my bowhunting. I like the clearshot for no armrests in the way and it only weighs 16 lbs weight cap. is 300 lbs. helps out alot on those warm days when you have to backpack in your climbing stand. check it out at summitstands.com
