Handi Rifle Trigger
« on: January 20, 2005, 02:44:28 AM »
I bought a Handi Rifle last year and had not shot it much because of the very heavy trigger(around 12 lbs) and the cases sticking in the chambers. I have reloaded for many years and this is the first rifle I have ever owned that did that. Although it does get 1 inch groups at 150 yds, any advise?? Steve 48

Its a 223 cal. I use 45 gr Rem HP with 27 grs ofW748 and Nosler 40 gr BT with 28 grs of W748. In my M700 in 223, they do even better. Steve 48

Steve: Look through FAQ at the top of the forum, it's a good starting point.
As far as the sticking cases, you're one of the first with that problem in .223. There are direction throughout this forum on polishing the chamber, one suggestion is to clean the chamber throurghly and make sure there is sizing lube residue on your ammo. :D , Welcome aboard Steve 48, at 12 lbs. the trigger is much to heavy and having the trigger brought down to abut 3 lbs should be free at H&R except for the shipping. Call customer service first and ask.You could also ask them to check the sticking chamnber while it's there, I personally would not. Wwith a shooter like that you don't want anyone fooling with it, just ask them to lighten the trigger to within specs and the lightest they can go, or do it yourself if you feel your op to it, there are directions on this site for the self done trigger job, good luck!!....<><....

Loads are not too hot in the other rifles I have. The Nosler load book calls for that 40 gr load. I have used new cases and ammo and have the same effect. Thanks for all of your advice and hopefully I'll see everyone at the NEF Prairie Dog shoot in OK. Steve48

One of my best handloads so far for my 223 UV is 27.0 grains of W748 behind a 52 grain SMK.  They were warm but no problems with sticking or pressure signs.  That load puts 5 in about 3/4 inch at 100 yds.  This is the first handload that I have found that shoots as good as the WW white box 45 JHP.  I do not recommend this for your rifle, work up to it and watch for pressure signs.
