scope brand recommendation
« on: January 19, 2005, 07:26:16 AM »
I'm putting together my first Encore Pistol.  Plan on 7mm-08 barrel, Pachmyer grip and forend.

Looking for recommendations for optics.  Based on the amount of recoil these scopes receive I'm  looking at leopold, Nikon, Burris, TC.  Want something with a excellent warranty.  Any recommendations on these brands for durability and model type.  Looking at maximum shots of 150-200yards.

Also thinking about getting a custom .22LR barrels to practice trigger pull (2 cents sure beats 35-50 cents per trigger pull) and small game hunting.
Obviously much less recoil that the big barrel so I'm thinking about a much less costly scope.  I don't want a red dot.  Any recommendations for this scope combination?

I've owned one Leupold 2X and one 4X, three Nikon 2X, and two Burris 2-7X.  I have had excellent results with the Leupolds and Nikons.  I had one Burris fail on a 44 Mag Contender after 10 shots.

I have used all the brands you listed but Nikon. Only one that ever failed was a Burris. For the money, and the best warranty I would go with a T/C scope.  A shooting buddy had a little accident and bent the tube on a T/C 3x9[gun got dropped on a concrete floor]. He sent it back to Thompson and they sent him a new one, no questions.

I have a Nikon 2.5 x 8 and think it is fantastic. Optics are extremely clear, built rugged, great adjustments. used it hunting this fall, great light gathering abilities.

So far holding up on encore .260

I bought my first Leupold scope in 1968 and now have over 30. I have never had a Leupold scope go bad. I owned 2 Burrius scopes and 1 of them was bad out of the box. I haven`t bought any of them since.

You cannot go wrong with the Bushnell Elite 3200 2x-6x. Excellent optics, good eye relief, and good, repeatable click adjustments. For the money, it is the best scope out there. Jon at the Optic Zone has a good price on them, also.

I've used Burris, Leupold and Bushnell Trophy and Elite. I've never had a Burris fail, they have an excellent customer service. I don't like the sight adjustments on the Leupold, no clicks, I like to feel those clicks. I really like the Bushnell 2x6 Elite, plenty of eye relief even at 6 power. It is a little less money than the Leupold, super sharp and click adjustments on the turrets with zero setting capability and rainguard.     Jerry J

My choices:
Burris, Leupold, T/C, Bushnell, Nikon, Sightron

I think that they are all excellent scopes, and have never had a problem with any of them.  Whatever you decide to buy, don't go super cheap.  I am a firm believer in the fact that you get what you pay for.

If I had to pick one of the scopes from my above list, I would go with the Leupold.  That doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with the rest, they're just my favorite choice.
How'd you like a peek at my 14-incher? (Contender, that is)

My choices in order of preference with out regard to cost:
    Leupold
    Burris
    Nikon
    Bushnell elite
    Pentax
    Weaver or Bushnell trophy[/list:u]
Since money is an object, my inventory shows I have more Burris scopes than any other brand and Leupold second on the list.  I think they give excellent value for the dollar.   I also prefer a scope of lesser power and of better make than a higher power or more featured version from a lesser maker.  My budget does not permit me to play with Zeiss or Swarovski grade optics.
