Peep sight - Need advice....again

A while back I installed a williams peep on my huntsman.  I was having trouble sighting. I'm not sure, but think the front sight is too low.  Even with the adjustment on the peep all the way back, all my shots were hitting 4" to 6" low at 50 yards.  Thinking I was adjusting the peep backwards, I even moved the rear ramp peep all the way forward to try that.  It didn't work either.  I've since scoped the huntsman, but wouild like to try the peep again in the future.  If I were to install a front sight with a higher post, would this help raise the POI??  Thanks in advance, Ambush

Ambushhunter, somewthing is screwy with that description of adjustments. Remember move the rrear sight the way you want the POI to go and move the front sight the opposite way you want the pOI to go. If you were hitting low with the rear sight all the way down (back) you would have to raise it (move it forward) to raise the POI. If you put a higher front sight on you would move the POI down, all else being equal...Get back on this because something is wrong here and the adjustments you spoke of seem backward....<><.... :grin:

MSP, thanks for the reply.  It was awhile ago when I tried it, I may be backwards, I can't remember.  I'm gonna mount the peep again and dedicate some time at the range soley for this purpose.  The last time I had this gun there I didn't have enough time to really try to figure out what I was doing wrong.  Maybe I should have waited till after another trip to the range to start this thread. :oops:   I'll bring it up at a later date.  Thanks again, Ambush

remember to mount the peed as close to your eye as possible.  That means in one of the scope holes not the location of the stock williams sight.  My stock williams would hit 4" low at 50 yards with rear ramp all the way foward.  The way I fixed it was to move the rear sight to the scope tap near the break.   the other way for you to fix it would be to buy a shorter front sight.  It is my belief that the newer sidekicks have too high a front pin.  Where did you get your peedp and what model is it?

This here one....fit right on the huntsman.  If I remember correctly, it does mount right to the 2 rear scope mount holes.  Maybe I do need the shorter front pin?  That's how backward I am....I thought I needed a higher front sight :shock:

I have the same problem peep all the way foreward and shooting low.  I called H& R they will repair if you return the gun to them

Odinbreaker.....they didn't happen to say what the problem was, did they??  I'd rather just fix it myself instead of going through shipping and waiting dance again.  Let me know when you get a chance, thanks, Ambush

It is nessary to raise the front  sight A local gun smith should be able to get you the correct sight you may have to go to an iron sight as a fiber optic is not the best with receiver sights

Just remember the basics, move the rear sight the way you want the point of impact (bullets) to go and move the front sight the OPPOSITE way you want the point of impact to go. If you raise the front sight you will LOWER the point of impact....<><.... :grin:

Thanks fo the wecome, Ihave been fooling aruound with blackpowder since 1970.  First guns was a spanish .36 cal rough gun I than got a Thompson 45 cal.  I was only one n the woods with one. Even the wardens didn't know whar to do
