got my first Contender carbine
« on: January 22, 2005, 02:21:04 PM »
was thinking of an encore katahdin carbine so went to a gunshow today. Walked in and one of the first things I saw was a contender carbine. to make a long story shot, I got it with a factory 16" 45-70 barrel walnut stock and forend at a good price , I think. I'm going back to buy a factory 16" .22 LR barrel off of him tommorow. and am keeping an eye out for a super 16" .44 mag barrel. I came home and mounted a small shotgun scope on it and boy does it look sweet     . Cant wait to shoot it, and naturally i'll be on the lookout for x-tra barrels :). I figured i'd be just as good off buying this as I would the katahdin because it is lighter weight and I can shoot rimfire barrels off of it without having to buy custom barrels and conversion kits and such.

I have an 45-70 encore barrel, 22" with the T/C muzzle break.  It is very accurate and fun to shoot.  If you reload, start low and work your way up.  I have a guide gun and loads that are very comfortable in that rifle really get your attention with the encore.  I got my first "scope bite" with an 400 grain sp at 1800 fps in the encore.

Good shooting
