removing paint from my gun
« on: January 23, 2005, 02:11:21 PM »
Hey everyone I just purchased a Savage Tactical 308 at a gun show.  At some point in this fine rifles life she got painted.  I would like to strip the paint off without ruining the synthetic stock, barrel, or receiver.  If anyone has any suggestions on what to do and what to use please let me know.  Thank you in advance

for the metal parts use carb cleaner or break cleaner, it may not work well on the stock though.

I would suggest heat but anything you might use that can loosen the paint will likely damage the plastic stock.  Try paint thinner, Stoddard's solvent.  It's not likely to damage the plastic and may soften the paint.  If not perhaps the best route would be to sand the stock and paint over the offending color.  Paint it the color the stock would be and it'll be hard to tell.
