If Only I could be at the range...
« on: January 22, 2005, 07:15:03 AM »
Would really like to be at the rifle range today shootin the handi, but with the snow falling and the thermometer showing 7 degrees...I'm just gonna have to sit here with a cup of coffee and look at the handi sitting in the gun rack.  Maybe if I sit here with it in my lap I'll feel better.  I've only got to shoot the 223 twice since I got it and have yet to get it grouping like I want it to.  I've only been shooting cheap Russian ammo so I'm not concerned yet.  This is the first CF rifle I've ever owned and I'm still getting used to shooting it.  A little different from my .50 cal flintlock.  This is a great rifle and I hope to hone my shooting skills with the 223 and then get a 270 barrel for it.  Looking forward to seeing how the Black Hills ammo shoots and then I'm gonna go with some Winchester 45's.  Can't wait to pick off some chucks this summer.  Anyone else suffering from cabin fever??

No cabin fever in south Texas yesterday.... :-D  :-D  :-D

Sorry couldn't resist...The best thing I have found for my 223 is Winny White box 45 grain....haven't stopped trying new stuff but it's the best shooting so far.... Good luck trying to find what shoots good in YOUR rifle...and winter will be over before ya know it...  :D

Gee thanks Deadeye...haha.  I forget what its like to go outside with short sleeves on.  Oh and how nice it would be to pull a trigger with no gloves on.  Glad to see someone is getting some range time though....BTW what is that gun you're shooting, it almost looks like some kind of repeater--not a very acceptable notion in this board haha.

Pardon me for butt'n in here, but I have had the Silencio Rangesafe RSX-85 for quite a while now, and they work excellent. I think I paid $80 for mine several years ago, they are monaural as opposed to stereo, but thats never been a problem. The newer models that I've looked at run on 3 AAA batteries, the RSX-85 runs on one 9-volt battery and lasts a loooong time, 80 hrs according to the specs. Just did a quick search, best price I found was at Creedmoor Sports.

Hey quick, your next post is #2000!!, how many bullets for that?....<><....

Also Deadeye, that shooting weather looks great from here, we are expecting 24-30+ more inches of snow tonight with winds estimated to reach hurricane strength, drifts expected to reach to 10 feet plus, the town has already said side (residential) streets may not be reached by plows for at least 2-3 days. This is why I put off my coyote trip to Maine, with one neighbor enroute to Florida, the guy across the street a local cop (a Handi shooter also!) who works in a neighboring town and who does not expect to be home for a couple of days and the divorced women who lives next door with her daughter I am the olny adult male in the area. It looks as if it's going to be a lot of shoveling and working for a while. Boy oh boy, I would sure like to be shooting at that nice range in short sleeves!!! Enjoy yourself for me will you....<><....

No, they are for range use.  They amplify sound some so you can talk with other shooters, so it's not like wearing just regular muffs, they do have a volume control. They cut out when someone shoots, though.  I have tried some of the hunting type muffs, but didn't care for them. The exposed mic was noisy in the wind. I use SportEars when hunting, they amplify sounds but will cut out when I shoot to protect what hearing I have left! They are stereo also, so I can tell what direction that gobbler is. They are relatively inexpensive hearing aids. Got mine on Ebay new for $310 shipped.

Nova, rifles shoot better if you whisper to them in a soft voice while cradleing them in your arms and rubbing their long body with a lightly oiled rag and tell them how much you love them and you will never feed them crappy ammunition. Thats what days like today are made for. :-D  :)  :-D  :)  :D

You might give them a call, they have special pricing of $352 per pair for clubs and camps, it's a toll free number, wouldn't hurt to find out for sure. You have to click on the order form link which will open a .pdf file(Adobe Reader)...

Don't know for sure, haven't had one quit on me yet in several days of hunting. They don't recommend it for use as a permanent hearing aid, only for sporting use, what ever that means. The FAQ has a bunch of info for ya...it says batteries should last 2 weeks. It comes with 10 batteries and they aren't expensive.

Sorry guys I just noticed the inquiry about the ear muffs..they are Caldwell's E-85's ...cheapos...they work ok and DO NOT amplify sounds...they allow one to hear conversation but block muzzle blast...I got um on sale from Midway a while back...takes 2 AA batteries...I'm pretty hard of hearing (for some reason.. ) and these work well for what I use them for...to hear someone talking to me yet block muzzle blast... 8)
