looking at these two scope for my ruger sbh hunter. i no that the first choice would be leu. or burris. but not for me right now. i do have a busnell on a tc encore 2x6 and the only thing i am not really found of is the very thin cross hairs but they do work. what do you guys think?

I know the Bushnell trophy will hold up to the heavy recoil, and hold mark no problem, not sure what type of weaver your talking about, they may have a high end, as far as I always new they were a low price low quality scope, not bad for a low recoiling rifle's, but nothing heavy. I had the trophy on my Ruger SRH 44mag. Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

I have one of each and I think either one will work. I have been switching out my scopes to Leupold, but some guns I still have other scopes on them. No use in replacing them, until either they go bad or I just don't have nothing better to do.  :D

I'd go with the Bushnell. Actually I'd go with it over the Leupold. The little 20mm objective on the Leupold scope really cuts short your shooting hours late in the day and really early in the morning. You lose legal shooting time to it. The Bushnell has a much larger objective and doesn't cost you that hunting time like the Leupold.

Quality is pretty much equal between them as is warranty. Price wise I suspect the Bushnell has the advantage.

I don't even consider Weaver when ready to buy scopes. I learned to love to hate them long ago when they were first made. One of them cost me the biggest buck I've ever seen when hunting. Just wasn't clear enough to find a hole to the deer to make the shot and it never offered me another opportunity. The newer Weaver's I've tried have sure failed to impress me so I don't even consider them anymore when buying a scope.

Actually GrayBeard,

I have been staying away from the Leupolds completely on big boomers and it isn't because of the objective diameter.

I have broken "just out of the box" Leupolds in less than 10 shots from some of my Loudenboomers.

The Bushnells hold up but their optical quality leaves alot to be desired and, frankly, I don't think that I could put my trust into it.  Just a personal thing.

Anybody played with the Nikon 2x on bigger stuff?

I have over 20 Leupold scopes, they are on very heavy kickers, 500MAG, 375H&H, 45-70, 444 Marlin, 454 Casull. I have not had one problem from my Leupolds. I have hundreds of rounds on each, and some over a thousand. I  might believe  one Leupold may have given you a problem, because anything can happen, but I am more than sure Leupold fixed it at no charge.
Spyro Andes, just how many leupold scope have you broken in 10 shots? Which gun and caliber were they on?

I'm sure we've all had a lot of varied and different experiences with the same brands of scopes. Spyro shoots stuff that I'd not even think of shooting and no doubt abuses scopes far worse than me.

I've never had a true mechanical failure of any scope from recoil. I either lap the rings or use Burris Signature rings. I avoid windage adjustable rings like the plague.

I've used Bushnell scopes both Trophy and Elite on handguns up to .44 mag and .454 Casull level. I had a Trophy 2-6 on an 8-3/8" S&W Classic DX when I dropped it from my shoulder holster to a wood floor on my stand. Had to drop at least 3'-4' and landed on the scope. When I checked it still worked fine and hadn't even shifted zero. This is he worst abuse I've given one so far.

The only scopes I've used that have really given me any particular trouble are Burris scopes. They are in my experience at least notorious for loose trash and floaters. Just had to pull one off of an FA83 in .44 Magnum the other day because a weird circular floater was blocking the crosshairs. Just looked at it awhile ago and can't see a sign of the floater. I know it's there and know it will come back. Just don't know when.

When I compare the Leupold and Bushnell scopes (either trophy or elite) to me the Bushnell wins hands down in clarity, brightness and optical quality. I can easily see bullet holes at 100 yards with one at 6X I have trouble seeing with many rifles scopes set to 9X.

We all pays our money and takes our chances. The results you get may not be the same as what I get or what any other person here gets.

Believe it or not, I love leupold scopes on my rifles.  I have a couple real big boys, like a 510 Wells Express rifle w/ a 21" barrell, that they Leupold has done fine on.

My problem with Leupolds has been with the Leupold 2x EER on the handcannons.

Actually, it hase been like 4 of Leupold 2x EER scopes.

After the 1st time I sent one back, I believe they started to charge me $20 a pop.

I just regulated all those scopes to the 454 & smaller hanguns.  At the time, a couple of years ago, they told me that they were not designed for anything larger than a 454 Casull.

I have blown up the 4 of them probably a total of 10 times...

I'd go with the Bushnell Trophy, best value in a handgun scope out there. I sell them 10 to 1 over any other brand and have never had one come back yet.

It's also what I use on all my handguns and never any problem.

Not sure about the Weaver, never used or sold one.

Spyro Andes,  how bad of a recoil do you get in your Encore in 416 Rigby?  What would you compare it to?

Thanks

I didn't think the rigby was that bad with a muzzle brake.  If I recall my load has 128 grains of IMR4350 w/ a 400 grain Barnes.  That much powder produces lots of gas.  Lots of gas makes the brake very effective.

In fact, while everyone at the range was scared to even try it, it was loud and would clear 3 shooting benches on each side of it, my younger sister would shoot it pretty well.

She is an athletic and strong gal, 5'9" 135lb triathlete, but pretty tiny when compared to big bro.  People would be pretty much in shock watching her shoot it especially when she would split old bowling balls into a couple of pieces with 1 shot.

Unbraked, it was down right U-G-L-Y

What would you compare it to?

Braked - Probably to a really heavy 360 grain load in a 454 Casull.  With the brake, it was a pusher.

Unbraked - getting hit in the head with a baseball.  Your head would just throb after a couple of shots.  I am sure it was concussion symptoms but I had a similar experience with my unbraked 510 Wells Express rifle with 600 grain Barnes after about 10 shots in ~60 minutes.

I think Spyro Andes hit on the answer.  I've got a Nikon 2X on my SBH Hunter.  It's crystal clear and hasn't given me any problems.  I've also got a Monarch on my .270 WSM, and it's the best scope I've ever owned short of my Kahles.  I have had several Leupolds, and I'm slowly, but surely, switching all of those over to Nikon.

m new to this handgun game but i cheched out lots of scopes before i bought one.someone here at Graybeards found a great deal on a Bushnell 2x Trophy for me for 1/2 price and i got one.

two weeks ago i picked up a TC 22 barrel and there was a 4x Leupold scope mounted on it.i am delighted to have this Leupold scope now,its $285.95 plus shipping from Natchez, and i paid less than that for the barrel ,scope mount, rings and scope.after compairing the Bushnell and the Leupold the Bushnell wins hands down.the Bushnell is more clear for sure and is much more forgiving as far as eye relief and for 1/3 the price.now im not going to rid myself of the Leupold but its not worth the extra money if i were to buy a new one.

another real clear scope i checked out was the Nikons.they are great glass and the pistol scopes arnt priced to bad either.

i going to buy one more handgun scope and i need it for my TC 223 barrel.i already know what that one will be,a Bushnell Trophy 2-6x  32mm.you cant beat them for the money

Bushnell Trophy:
I have a 2-6X that started out on my Contender 14" .223
Then I traded my T/C for a REM. 700 22-250 ADL, So now it sit's atop My SBH .44 Mag.
I have put hundreds of rounds through it without a hick-up.
And I got my T/C Back :-D  so the 2-6X will be going back to the T/C and the SBH will be getting a Bushy 2X.
All my scopes have came by way of reccomendation for m GrayBeard,
CKNight98, and Jon, They know what they are talking about.
And if I may, alittle plug for Optic Zone :D .
Jon and his wife are tops and their prices can't be beat.

Not by your definition of "bigger stuff"   :-D

I'd really be curious if they would hold up where the Leupolds failed.  I like my Nikon 2X scopes (I have 3)  but on nothing bigger than a 44 Mag.
You can usually pick up a used Nikon 2X on ebay for about $120 or less.
