I have 2 223 Handi's thinking about another Barrell for one. I see some barrels for sale now and then. Do you have to send back to NEF factory to fit the barrel if you buy a used one.

It is my understanding the factory will NOT fit a barrel you did not buy from them.  I'm not sure what kind of luck most have been having lately with used barrels fitting.  Maybe some of them will input here.

I'd just send it back to the factory and have them fit a new one.

I just bought a barrel off of mitchell and it fit perfectly on both receivers. But i did buy a 44 barrel that did take some fittin, but not much. If you have any trouble one of the guys here will be happy to help you out.

Bought a 22 hornet & it fit fine on 3 frames & a 12 ga tracker fit on 1 frame therefore more is better :grin:

I've bought several used barrels, some fit fine with no problems, others need to be worked with to get em to fit right. If you are a DIY kind of guy, it's not much of a problem, but if you aren't "handy" with tools and blessed with a little "yankee engineering", it would be best for you to buy barrels from H&R.

Ditto what Quick said,
You never know if it will fit or not.  I recently bought two pardner 88 shotgun barrels, just for the lugs, but both fit my SB2 frame like they were made for them.  Locked up nice and tight with no gap at all between the barrel and receiver.  Who would have guessed.

I have 3 actions SB2 and one Model 158 H&R 8 barrells They will
 all work on all actions except  45-70 barrell will only lock up on
 1 - SB 2 actions, It was bought from a fellow member here on GBO.

Have three 223 now. switched barrels around last night. They all seem to fit one another fine. But I would imagine that some might not.
