Bushnell scopes???
« on: January 25, 2005, 06:20:00 PM »
I am thinking of putting a 4-12X40 Bushnell Banner scope on my .223 Ultra Varmint. I have also thought of the Bushnell 6-18X50, but I am leaning toward the latter. Does anyone here use the 4-12X40 Banner scope, and how do you like it? Do you have problems with POI shifting when you change the power of your scope? For less than $90 at the local gunshop I am thinking of taking the simmons 3-9 off my gun, but the price of the Bushnell seems pretty cheap for a good scope. I bought the Simmons at Wally World, and it has done better than I would have expected for the price, but I want a little more power.

Zach,

I'm dialing in a Wallie World Bushnell 4-12X 40mm with Weaver Quad mounts right now.  It was $69.95 with AO which is $10 cheaper than the Red Head (Bass Pro store brand Bushnell) I have on my .22 Hornet.  I have a Bushnell 3-9X 40mm on my .357 Mag, so I guess you can tell I like Bushnell's!

I have been mostly shooting off a bench with these and always use the higher power setting.  The one live target I shot with the Hornet expired very quickly (like instantly), so I guess the POI must have been close enough.

I have two of the 4-12x40 scopes, so far no problems with either.

My Banner 4-12 is quite a nice scope. I've reviewed the entire Bushnell product line altho not every scope in each line and I trust all of the Bushnell scope lines. I will be putting another Banner on one of the rifles I'm taking to the NEF/H&R prairie dog shoot in June.

I have one and love it.  I have not experienced any shift in POI with zooming.  Excellent scope for the price that is listed at midwayusa. I will definatley be getting another one.  I have a banner 1.5-4.5 x 32 and that was a good scope too. Igot rid of it for a fixed 4x though.
It's all a hot mess...........

I have that scope and I have been pleased with it. I like that power for predator hunting and open country big game.  I have always have had good luck with bushnell scopes, yes there is better, but compared to other low end scopes they have been very reliable.

The next scope I buy will be one of the two you have mentioned probably the 6-18  but that has more to do with how I arrange the scopes I have now to fit in my new 204 handi.

What is the intended use for your 223?

Thanks Guys, I am doing coyote hunting in winter, and some chuck hunting in summer. 6 power is all I need for the yotes, but I would like more power than my current 3-9 simmons gives me for the chucks. I think 12 power would do the trick. I have thought of the 6-18, but am unsure yet. Now I've got to decide which one I want.
Thanks,
Zach

Hey Beekeeper
I have the same scope you are asking about on a light weight 30-06.
I am very satisfied with it, and have had no problems with it at all.

I have the Banner 6X18X50 on my 243 Ultra and it works great. I do a lot bench shooting and some deer hunting with it and no problems, can see great at dusk or dawn.

I've got 2 of the 6X18X50's and I really like them. They are the best scopes I have when it comes to very low light situations. I still can not believe these scopes on moonlight nights.  Digger

I picked up one of the 4-12 banners a year ago, and I have been very pleased with it.
It resides on a slightly custom 10/22 at the moment, and does great for me there.
I got to say, that in general I have been more than happy with all my Bushnell scopes, from my Bausch & Lombs, and the Elites, to most of the Trophys and Banners I have, no trouble.
There is one other scope right now that is a real good deal, that would work great on your 223.
 Natchezss.com has the Simmons 44 mag 1048 for $99.95, http://www.natchezss.com/product.cfm?contentID=productDetail&prodID=SN801048
I have two of these 1048s and they are great for the money at $99.95.
These scopes, and only the 1048, have an 1/8 min click value and target  turrets unlike most in this and higher price bracket.
Good luck, and good shooting, with whichever scope you chose. Andy
