I've got a bushel of ammo loaded, postal cards, and a new chronograph ready to go, I just need some good weather.

Hard to do much shooting from a coszy chair by the fire. Another month or six weeks and I'll be back to it.

I have access to a sizeable range now, and I want to check out my loads at 100 and 150 yards, but I suspect that I am nearing the time that I will decide that I am getting all I can expect to get out of the Max.

you guys ever tried the W296 powder in your max.i bought a pound of it for my Contender and im very happy with it so far.

start load 21gr
max load 23gr
cci small rifle primer
Speer 180gr flat nose hot core bullet--more like a semi spitzer than a flat nose bullet
around 1900fps out of a 14 inch barrel

ive only shot my gun at 50yds so far but i have shot a couple 3 shot groups just under an inch.this seems to be a great setup for my gun.i bet out of a 22 inch handi barrel it would really smoke em out of there.i have no clue as to how this bullet will perform on game but the Speer people tell me it works great.time will tell

I have used the 296 powder with good results. I have shot several 5 shot groups well under an inch. It was 180gr xtphp over 18.5gr w296 with fed GM srprimer.
I also had some speer 158 FMJSIL bullets reading over 2300fps through Leftoverdj's chrony using 296 powder.

Actually I only winged it, hit the right rear shade screen stick. The clock and display still work, it just tells me that a 1400 fps load is now doing 3000 fps. Not too bad for a 45-70, shoot, that puts a 460 Weatherby to shame. These Handis are really great rifles, just one shot doubled my ballistic performace, I've gone from a deer rifle to an elephant gun :-D  :)  :-D

I heard they taste like chicken if you soak them in salted water long enough to take the gameiness out of them and get them tender!!....<><....

I was getting about 1700 fps with maximum charges of H110 and that bullet, I'm probably getting 3500+ now :)  (It is accurate though)
