piller bed question on a 3 screw action

mainly my question is about the middle screw on a pre64 style action,i understand that the front and rear screws are the main screws and you need to be carefull not to overtighten the center screw so as to not stress the action,my thought was to ,after doing my front and rear screw piller bedding and letting it set,to carefully fit a piller for the middle screw,not betting it but rather making a spacer to prevent creating a downward pulling force on the center of the action.
  the other question is about using brass pipe as my piller,other than needing to cut some groves in the sides to allow for the bedding material to grip any thoughts of why they wouldn`t work ok?

Dear JBS,
   As the middle screw just mainly is to hold the front trigger guard screw, I usually just make pillars from steel/aluminum for the front and rear screws only and just use a piece of rigid plastic for the center. Guess a brass tube would do also. Trouble is with some[Rems] there isnt a lot of room to put in a pillar. On my own personal rifles I just carefully tighten the middle to hold the guard and NOT tweak the action.

If you have room, aluminum arrow shaft works well as pillar for center screw.
