Cabela's Hawken?
« on: January 28, 2005, 07:21:38 AM »
Allright, I did the major No-No. I shot my rifle last year, reloaded, and forgot about it. Now I have a load stuck in the barrell, and some corrosion. Let me ask this, If I can get the load out, and replace with a new nipple, am I going to be safe to fire. The inside has a good bit of rust, and some on the outside fo the nipple. I am going to assume that my accuracy is going to be hurt. There are only 3 days of season left, not enough time to get a new barrell. I tried to get one from cabelas and they sent me the wrong one, sent it back, then they were out of stock. Any help?

very likley you WILL be able to shoot safely.  And your right,,your accuracy will suffer. Once the surface scale of rust is removed from the bore so as to not cause obstruction(ya know,so it ain't pluggin the bore?) you'll be able ta shoot it.
You can salvage the barrel,,but I'm a bit concerned about doing it in a "hurry-up" manner just ta get those last few day's of season in :D
Take care removing the nipp, don't wreck them threads!(honest!)..If I had hands on I could probably get ya goin tommorrow,, yet passing info over the net to help ya get things right is a mite scary. I'd say borrow a gun from a freind for end of season. Then let's work on that barrel for the next few weeks.

Did you know the Green Mountain Barrel I.B.S. will fit Cabelas Hawkins?
i'm a realist. i've not seen it all, but man ,,I've Been Around the block once or twice
