6MM Rem info needed
« on: November 15, 2004, 04:27:25 AM »
I'm looking for a tack driving load for My M-77 6mm.
I have a great 85gr load; now I need a deer load for 100 gr bullets.

 Any suggestions?

I have two loads with the 100gr bullets that my Ruger 77 likes well.  Both of these loads are safe in my rifle but you must work up from below for your rifle as there is no way of knowing about your rifle.  I use Rem cases and Fed210M primers for all my loads.  The one load I use is 45.0gr IMR4831 and the other is 45.5gr RL19.  Both of these loads have shot three shot groups as small as 5/16" out of my rifle.
Good Shooting,
George

Because of problems with .243 diameter bullets I'd substitute a faster round for the 100 grainer you're planning.    I'd try the 87 gr' spire point hunting bullet from Hornady.    It's not a varmint bullet, neither is it an interloc.    It's their hunting bullet, however, and it's greater velocity should help it open up better on a deer-sized animal.    That's my sincere opinion -- one I'm going to try talking a very good friend of mine into.   He just came home with a left-handed Rem' 700 BDL wood-stocked .243 and wants some loads made up for him.    Barnes' book about cartridges talks about eratic ballistics with the .243 and I'd expect that to mean not only velocities but bullet performance as well from what I've read elsewhere.

Good luck in any event,

I've gotten good velocity with IMR7828 and the 100 grain bullet in the 6mm Remington.  Get a Speer number 11 or 12 manual and look at the loads.  I use bigger calibers for deer hunting so I can't comment on how those loads would work on big game animals.
