.25 ACP Breech Plug for NEF Sidekick/Huntsman at PR
« on: January 29, 2005, 04:08:51 AM »
First I would like to credit rwullsch with this find. So send all applicable finders fees to him.

Take a look, just saw this last night. I am sure this will be better than the primer carriers, but definitely not as handy. Does anyone know what shell holder is needed for .25 ACP? I might just have to bite the bullet and buy one. Check it out. I think he is stretching the before groups of 3.5" to the after .6" a little bit though. I haven't seen one yet that won't shoot under 2" out of the box with the right load.

Thanks,

Does the .25 ACP use a small pistol primer?  What would be the cheapest way to prime and deprime these cases?  Will the breechplug for the Sidekick fit the Huntsman also?  I have a Huntsman but am not sure that it is worth the $60 to try.  I still would like to get a smokeless powder barrell.

rwullsch,

You can use either small rifle or pistol primers I believe. I think Cecil uses the #400 primers. Lee Auto prime for priming, a small nail or punch is all you would need for depriming. You would need a shell holder #15 for the LEE Auto Prime. The Sidekick and Huntsman BP are the same thing. I am debating whether it would all be worth it too, might be just allot of hassle to eliminate a little blowback for me. The smokeless barrel has intrigued me for a couple of years, but our DNR is not allowing it's use during the Muzzleloader Season or Regular Firearms Season in the Shotgun Zone. Let me know if you get one or the other.

Looks like Cecil was just testing the waters to see what the demand was. His link now has "available for delivery in March 2005". I think he wants to see how many orders he needs to fill before contracting the manufacture of the breech plugs. So it kinda looks like we may have to wait a while to see how this BP is going to pan out. I was going to order one tomorrow, but I just might wait until they are available now. :(

you can punch the primers out and use a hand primer to put new ones in.  I use the one that does take a shell holder and it is easy.  I am wondering if we still use the carrier at all as it is easy to use if very messy.  I wish he had a pic of one so I can envision how it works.  It makes sense as we blow a lot of the shotgun primer's charge outsid eth breech with the carriers.
