I voted 270 because of all the deer I have harvested with it, all one shot kills. My favorite now is my 270WSM, but, this year I have bought a 260, a 25-06 and a 7mm-08 and will have to try those too. I know it's a hard job, but someone has to do it 8) ........also have a 15" Encore pistol in 7mm-08 I'll have to work in there somehow

Have a preference towards the 30-06 and 270 Win, but choice of caliber should not be the only factor about what to hunt with.

See my signature.
45 ACP 230-gr. Double Tap Gold Dot = 1,010 fps / 15.3" & .95"    :D

Aim for the Triangle Area between armpits & throat.

.257 Roberts.  Handloading is the only way with this one though. A little heavier bullets then 243 at the same velocity. Better performance downrange. And all the killing power you need for deer with low recoil. The 25-06 burns more powder.

I didn't vote either because, the 25-06 is my favorite. I sometimes use my 300 winchester mag to. Both work great, just have a hard time deciding at times.

:cb2: My choice on the list was the .30-30, however my overall vote getter is the 6.5x55.

IMHO, the "best deer caliber" is the one you have the most confidence in to put meat in the freezer, based on your abilities, terrain hunted, size of deer hunted, etc.

my personal favorite for hunting deer in the northeast (bear too for that matter) is the .35 Remington

.257 Roberts Ackley Improved 40 degree shoulder in a Win model 70. Looks good and shoots even better with my hand loads. I also use a Savage 99 in .300 savage hand loads.
