My new Dan Wesson sez HELLO!
« on: March 29, 2006, 01:10:38 PM »
Hello Folks, I am new to the forum and am excited to get going.  I have 3 Dan Wesson 1911's and based on my great experience with them have been yearning for a DW revolver.  I had been planning on buying when I stumbled across your forum.  What a help in making the right choice.  Here is the gun I finally purchased.  As many of you can see it is a 15-2VH .357 made in the Monson factory.  I have not shot it yet but everything is tight and fit, no slop in the cylinder etc.  Tomorrow will be the proof though when I go shoot it.  I will be looking for some nice DW zebrawood grips to top it off.  Any thoughts or comments on how to get to know my new gun better will be appreciated.

Happy to be part of your forum :D

DW Revolvers

Snagglepuss,
Somehow, along the way, I missed out on the DW revolvers but also recently acquired one - a 744.  They are the "cat's pajamas" for sure.  I could kick myself for not taking advantage of their availability in the 80's. I've learned more about them than I knew there was to know on this forum.   Look forward to learning how your new revolver shoots.

Snagglepuss,
it looks like you have a great Mod. 15.

Just shoot it, you will love it!!!!

I have been singing the praises of Dan Wesson revolvers on forums for years.  Sometimes it seemed like a lonely pursuit.  One of the reasons I agreed to moderate this forum is to help keep people informed about these great guns.  All the contributors on this forum must be doing their job a little to well.  I have noticed the prices of used guns and barrels going up significantly.  The good news is that the value of the ones we own is going up.  The bad news is that the value of the ones we want is going up as well.

Welcome to the Dan Wesson revolver world.

Beware, they are addictive.

Well I went to the range tonight and put about 100 rounds through the gun, both .38 special (popgun) and some nice hearty .357s.  I really like how it handled the .357s, I have never liked the .38s as they seem so wimpy.  One thing I had noticed while looking over the gun was that the rear sight was bent to the right. As if it had been bumped or dropped from behind.  I don't know if this effected my shooting but I was all over the place.  The grip is big for my hand so I road up the grip a bit.  This helped  a lot.  As you might expect I shot much better at closer distances.  I loved the feel of the gun however.  It is very smooth and solid.  I will give it a good cleaning and lube this weekend and see if it loosens up.  I really want to get a pair of DW zebra wood grips as the ones included are pretty beat up and as I mentioned very "fat" for my hands.
All in all I can feel the same quality I do in my DW 1911's.  I know this will not be the last one I buy.  How about that new Alaskan Guide Special??

Thansk for the welcome.

It may well be that your grip problem is just "wood".  I have a couple of sets of wood, but I like the Presentations much better and they seem to fit much better.  I also have some Hogues, but I don't like them as well as the Presentations.  I think I found one set on ebay for about $10 plus shipping.

Your Grouping Problems

Congrats on your gun - I just reaquired mine after not having one for a couple years.  I have a 10" scoped barrel an 8" 2 6" barrels and a 2.5" barrel.  One problem aside from your possible loose rear sight is that you need to check your barrel/cylinder spacing with your spacing tool that you hopefully got with your gun, as well as a barrel wrench.  It should be the .006 as req'd. by the DW specs.  If it is out of spec it will cause the gun to "throw" your groups out.  Safe Shooting!!  -  Greg
