Winchester will be bringing out the .480 Ruger next year in their Traditional and traditional CW line of Model 1894's. That .454 would be something, wouldn't it? I think the pressure (50,000 PSI PLUS) is too much for any existing lever action. The .45 Colt in a lever gun don't have no fleas on it... A 300gr bullet at about 1800 fps. That is the front yard of the .45-70!! Try one of those before you ask for more. It's got enough kick for me. That's about the recoil level I hold my .444 to; beyond that I flinch too much.

Scrounger, are you sure on that Winchester .480 Ruger? There was lots of talk of it awhile back and then it died and folks said Winchester had decided it wasn't do able after all. I really like that round and while I don't much care for the Winchesters and like the Marlins much better I'd be sorely tempted to buy even the Winny if they'd make it in .480 Ruger.

That's what I was told last week. I called their Customer Service to ask about that because someone had told me they were going to bring out that chambering. Pity it's not in their legacy line. Roger that on Marlins; really much better guns.

Dave, thanks for the link to more info. The pressure possibilities are an eye opener and might be a good reason that no one else has stepped up with a lever in this caliber.

I shoot a friend's 45LC quite a bit (Navy Arms '92), but we haven't tried too many warmer loads in it yet. Also have been playing with a Marlin cowboy in 45/70 that can give me all the recoil that I want in a hurry. Maybe I'll look around for a 44 or 45 and call it good at that.
