question on Savage 99

I recently bought a Savage model 99E in 243. From other posts I believe it is a 1967 model. Am refinishing the stock and wonder if Savage ever put a plastic butt plate on their guns? The current plate on this gun seems to fit well though the top screw is lose. There is also a white plastic spacer between the stock and the black plastic plate. The black plate is simple, looking much like the metal ones I have seen. I ordered a used metal plate but would like to keep it authentic if the plastic plate is the original.

I have the model E introduced in 1960 in .250-3000 and .300 Savage.  In 1961, the .243, and .308 calibers were introduced with 20 " barrels.  The buttstocks were select walnut, uncapped pistol grip, no checkering.  The buttplate was made of corregated hard rubber.
