7.5 X 55 Swiss GP90 for 1889 rifle
« on: January 30, 2005, 04:59:12 PM »
Hello

I was wondering if anyone had tried to load the 7.5 X 55 Swiss GP-90 (also known as the 7.5 X 53.5mm) for the 1889 rifle with black powder or a black powder substitute and lead projectiles.
I know that the original powder was a semi-smokeless and was wondering if you used a black or a substitute powder you could keep the pressure down to the safe levels for this rifle.
I have read that if you use the 30-40 Krag loading data that it will be okay for the 1889, and it would be easier and cleaner than black or a substitute but was just curious to know it someone had tried it or if it was possible.
Thanks I look forward to reading your posts.

Don

Since nobody else has answered I'll comment that I bet you've already visited www.swissrifles.com but do so if you haven't. I don't know that the answer is there but you'll definitely find other contacts and useful information. Good luck and good shooting.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have been to the site in the past and had just thought of checking it out again and posting the question there as well.
