Shoot Southern Trifecta II
« on: February 02, 2005, 03:49:43 AM »
The Sunshine Classic in Jacksonville  April 9-10 will be the first leg of the second Annual Southern Trifecta. The Winnsboro, LA Southern Nationals June 4-5 will be the second leg. The Midsouth Classic near Little Rock, AR September 17-18 will decide the winners of each of the five classes. Last year the prizes were custom Winstead shooting vests. No charge for entering the Trifecta; just put those matches on your calendar.
Here's the deal: Total the scores for the twelve, 40 shot matches (four matches per meet, two each Hunter and Standard.) 480 is "possible." Your Trifecta class is the highest class you attain this year in either gun.  Troy Lawton was the Master class winner in '04 with a total of 429! (That's an average for the twelve matches of 35.75. Lots of you good shooters have shot 36's. Averaging almost that for 12 consecutive matches, in three states, over five months, alternating hunter and standard...that's shooting! And Cathy Winstead was very close behind.)
Dan Healey took AAA with 320, Bobby Pitchford won AA with 237, Joanne Fowler got the A prize with 117 and John Taylor, who I believe attended only one match, won the B class with 53.
Most of you already know that Jacksonville and Winnsboro are two of the best-run, friendliest, most enjoyable rifle matches in the United States. Hurricanes hurt attendance at the Midsouth last year but we still got almost 50 shooters. Find a non-Arkansan who attended and ask him/her whether it was a good match! (We Arkies are biased.)

CORRECTION!
Bill Motl of Texas was right behind Lawton for the top Trifecta prize with 411. Our match director reminded me that Ms. Winstead missed Jacksonville because she was off winning the World Championships. I'm embarrassed to have left out Bill's great performance.
