Anyone have any real life numbers for the '04 Tacoma crew cab 4x4?
I'm thinking about getting one before they are all gone and the best small truck is no longer made...

I've only got three tanks of gas thru mine so far but that's about the same as I'm getting with my 2005 Tundra. Why buy a little truck if it ain't gonna get better mileage than a big one?

You should take a good look at the 2005 Tacomas.  They are bigger, have more power and get better gas mileage.  Some of the new features are really nice too.  Though they are a bigger truck, they have a tighter turning radius.  A tough new bedliner is now standard.

I've got my sights set on a 2005 access cab with the 4 cylinder engine and stick transmission.  They have about 20 more horsepower (164 hp for 2005) than the 2004s and they get better gas mileage.

Yer might be right. But then you don't know what I paid. Still I admit that wasn't real high on my selection criteria list. I looked more at what I wanted than what it cost. Only thing that mattered was could I afford the payments. Answer was yes. So I got it.

My friend has a Hemi. In the real world more like 11 to 12mpg. Can't go by those EPA stickers.

Nope. Tacoma is a little truck. Tundra is a full size truck. Same size as Ford, Chevy, Dodge full size trucks.

I don't know about the new Tundra, but when they were the T100's they were advertised as a full size, but in all actuality were classified as a mid size just like the Dakota.

I bought a new Dodge Durango SLT last Thursday (12/30/04). It has the "Hemi" engine and is also "All Wheel Drive" with "4 high-lock" and "4 low-lock". I just filled it up for the first time sense the dealer did and got 11.5 mile per gallon (mpg) with about 90% of my driving in the city. I was also checking out the "power" a little bit too (and there is plenty of it) , not to bad though because it is brand new! I don't expect to get any better then 12-13 mpg in the city anyways. My 2002 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 with a 4.7L V8 didn't get any better then 12.5 mpg in the city so I don't expect anything with a "Hemi" to get much better. I don't drive to save gas.....I drive to get to where I'm going! My way of thinking is "If I can afford a $35,000 vehicle.......I should be able to afford the gas"!

I don't know if the Tundra is quite as big as a Dodge Ram, Chevy or GMC 1500 or a Ford F-150. I do know a Tundra is bigger then a Dodge Dakota. I just get rid of a Quad Cab Dakota and I know the Tundra's definitely bigger.

Guys I'm telling ya the Tundra's at least the 2005 Tundra is a full size truck. Same size as Chevy, Dodge and Ford. Mine will not even fit in the garage so it has to stay outside. Too long to fit. It is precisely the same length as my Ford 150 LWB 4x4. Same width too. It really is a FULL SIZE truck now. Dunno what a T100 used to be but this sucker ain't no mid size anymore.

It's got 282 HP and will smoke the tires. This one ain't yore daddy's Toyota.

mamerch,  I have a 2003 Tacoma  4x4crew cab. I bought it used with about 6500 miles on it ( same vehicle as the 2004's).  So far i've put about 2000 miles on it and have been averaging about 18-19mpg.  I love this truck so far.   Yes the 2005 Tacomas are bigger and more powerful and get about 1 to 2 mpg more but they also require 91 octane gas. And the price of the vehicle went up too.

GB,

I saw a new 05 Quad Cab Tundra over the weekend, I have to say that is one nice looking truck! I am going to make my 2000 F150 last a liitle while longer, as I am hoping for a new Harley in about 15 more months.
