I think I saw an eyelid quiver..........
« on: January 30, 2005, 04:10:05 PM »
So let me beat this 25 ACP, "dead horse" just a bit more.

Ok, I've sprung for the conversion.

*Accuracy [which is acceptable] is no better than 209,
*The crud ring problem is noticeably better, though I don't mind spit patching  the barrel between shots so [for me] it's a minor improvement at best,
*Blow back must be better, though I've shot my Encore about 200 times now and have not had any problem with the firing pin (I believe that Cecil said he jammed one in 50 shots or so).

I guess the point I'm making is that  [for me] the conversion is at best only a minor improvement (which logic would dictate that I continue to use it instead of the standard 209 ignition).  My concern is in the way I have to slam the gun shut in order to disengage the hammer lock.

What are all the expert opinions out there regarding damage to the breech (whatever you call the back plate that the firing pin sits in)?  I would think that the brass shell would be much softer than the gun, and hence, would be the part that, "gives" but again, I don't want to do any damage to my Encore (at least until I kill something bigger than a squirrel).  I don't have the tools to trim the brass (and am quite sure I'd screw it up if I tried).

Does anyone share my concerns, or am I being a worry wart??

Thanks in advance all for your assistance!

I had a little better results than you have. I also had the same problem you have with it a little difficult to close. After I closed the gun with the 25ACP shell in it, the second time with the shell in place it closed easier. I trimmed a couple pieces of brass and they worked great. I only had to take off 0.002 to get then to not be so hard to close.  :D

I didn't think to check to see if the shells are easier to load the second time around (which would support my theory regarding the brass, "giving" as opposed to the Encore.  At present, I'm still working my way through my first 100 ACP shells.

I'll take a look this evening to see if the breech closes any easier.

Thanks!!
