.223 AMMO ????
« on: February 02, 2005, 09:48:41 AM »
I've been testing different Ammo out of my .223 Survivor 22" Bull Barrel. The White box Win 45gr. JHP initially shot better than the Black Hills 50gr V-Max at 100 yds. I was getting close to 1 inch groups with the Win Ammo. After " floating" the barrel with the spacer trick and some sanding on the stock, the V-Max Ammo now groups about 2 inches at 200 yds and the Win Ammo is all over the place. What would cause this? Shouldn't the Win Ammo that shot good iniatially got better instead of worse?

Clean it good.

I was intitially elated with my 223 and the WW varmit amo. Decided to get another scope for it everything was working so good.

Put on the scope and started sighting in and it just didn't seem right. Took it apart. Did the trigger job thing. Stuff still just kept getting worse.

Finally just sat and thought about it a minute and realised I'd probably put 30 or 40 rounds through it with sighting in two scopes, trigger job tests, and just fooling around.

Did the through cleaning and even polished the chamber. Did the whole flitz thing on the barrel and deep cleaned again. Rechecked and tightened all screws and it's probably shooting better than ever it seems.

not all rifles shoot better with the 'spacer trick'.

try shooting again, without it.
