What scope mounts for my CVA buckhorn??
« on: February 02, 2005, 05:43:27 PM »
Here's the deal. I just got a CVA Buckhorn 209 in .50 cal. I have two scopes to try out--one the mauser that I bought on ebay. Its a 3-9x40 and real nice. The other is a simmons 3-9x32. I don't think that the simmons will work, because I think it may be for a rimfire or .22 rifle. I was told by the person I bought it from that it was for a shotgun. I'm not two sure. Anywho, the question is this. What type of scope mounts will work with this inline, and does anyone have any extra ones that they could sell me for cheap. Will the CVA universal mounts work for this gun? What should I look for in mounting my scope. I am going to go and at least field zero my fiber optic sights on the gun this weekend with some 777 pellets and 295 copper tipped HP. Don't really know what to get etc...

Weaver makes a two piece base for the round recever CVA. Part number 418M. Two of these are around $8.00. A set of 1" rings will go for around $16.00. The Simmons scope will probably use 1" rings, don't know about the other scope. There are other mounts but they do cost more.
When you mount the scope you want to make sure you have a clear sight picture. (no blaack on edges) Make sure you have enough eye relief. Don't want to get a busted forehead from the scope during recoil. Remove accesive oil and tighten the screws with even torque. Do not overtighten. Make sure elevation adjustment is on top of scope when you mount it. These are just some of the basics.
You might want to go to a loacl gun shop and buy the base and rings. They will probably mount the scope for little or nothing.
Good Luck,
Stan

I was looking in a Midsouth Shooters Supply catalog. D&R Sports Center should have them as well. SWFA (riflescopes.com) and the Optic zone might even have them. Weaver style mounts are made to fit just about everthing. Shouldn't be hard to find, even Wally World has them. All these Companies have websites and some sponsor GBO.
Hope this helps,
Stan
