Got a new old fishing pole
« on: February 17, 2005, 04:33:44 AM »
My stept dad gave me an old pole he has had since late 40's-early 50's.
Its a True Temer (westren auto brand) 6ft 2 piece sq. taper metal pole.
I can remember fishing in the delta in the early 50's for stripers, fishing lake Tahoe for Macks and Big trout. And trolling for trout in just about every lake in No. Calif, plus a couple trips for some costal fishing. It came with a green canvas case with a wooden dowel to keep the pole from being bent. Its a True Temper Sport Troll rod. It has a permanente bend to the left from so many years of trolling. Its not an expensive custom made rod or anything, but it has many years of memories of good times fishing and camping. After I try to wear it out and cant fish no more (heaven forbid), will pass it on to my grandson and he can try to wear it out. Best thing about this rod is its still in excellent condition with the cork on the forward part of the handle is starting to get a little loose. Gonna shoot a little expoxy under the cork to take care of that. Just had to pass this good fortune along.

If I could make a suggestion. Nobody else will have those memory's so, have a shadow box made for it and hang it on the wall somewhere. I have a similar delima with a rifle I got from a guy that was like a dad to me. Once in awhile I shoot it but mostly, I wipe it, admire it and hang it on the wall.
 Even a blind squrrel find's an acorn sometime's![/quote]

Don, went fishing Sat at one of the local lakes. (high country still under snow) Wife went along for the ride (and to sleep in the boat). Took a nice limit of trout with the old rod. Made me sit there and think back in time of a lot of old good memories. Nice calm day, lots of sunshine, good LUNCH, and we both enjoyed the outing. Normally wife dosent go with me but she wanted to go this time. (guess after she saw the picture of SAM that someone posted a while back) she decided she had better start going to keep track of my fishing friends.  :)
I would rather see my grandson use the pole when Iam not able to fish any more (UGH) and get as much enjoyment and hours out of it that I have gotten.
