I have found that the PMC is good ammo but the 22 mag stuff is not very fast compared to the others. I wonder what the Velocity is on these. Considering speed is the one of the selling factors of the round if these were not as fast I cannot see what advantage it would be except maybe cheaper. The only reason I like the PMC in the 22 mag is they make a softpoint that looks like the ones in centerfire ammo. Jim

I find the same PMC to be accurate in my marlin, and at $4.50 a box, quite a good deal.  it and Rem Vmax shoot to about same POA, so they are the two I keep.    the Vmax is slow too. but at least faster than a 22lr  !!!  

heck, gives you a excuse to get a 22 hornet, to uh, fill the gap  :wink:

not for what you think.  The reason that the .17HMR manufacturers came out with the 20 grain round is that the 17 grain round is TOO FAST.  
Many users, myself included, ask the manufacturers to consider a 20 grain, and even a 25 grain round just for the purposes of allowing this accurate cartridge to be used on a wider variety of game.  On game, the 17 grain round fragments and causes too much destruction.  While an excellent feature, regarding ricochets, the meat destruction limited shots to "head shots" only. The 20 grain round travels a few hundred feet per second slower, thus allows the bullet to penetrate further, causing less pelt damage, while still providing a humane kill.
While the 17 grain round will "blow up" on contact, the 20 grain round will penetrate up to 15 inches of ballistic gelatin.  This is a case where SLOWER is better.  Joe

I believe the 17PMC is the 17 Aguilla ammo, which FWIW, can be shot in a 17M2 chamber but not in a 17hmr.

Thanks for correcting me.  You are absolutely right.  I didn't realize that PMC had released the .17 Aguila round under their PMC brand.  While I had the round wrong, the logic still applies.  The heavier bullet will allow for greater penetration.  Thanks Again, Joe

While the newer 20 gr. bullets do penetrate more they still do way to much damage on smaller game and fragment to easily for use on bigger game animals.  A contract hunter friend of mine is still using his .17 HMR but on Coyote sized critters he is still lost a few that ran off after being hit with the 20 gr. bullet.  Maybe a 25 gr. bullet would work for close, called in Coyotes.  Lawdog
