charles daly shotguns??

i need a durable shot gun for under 200$$(wal-mart :grin: ) for water fowling- mainly ducks. the charles daly looks nice but are nice ?? will hold up to 3,000 rounds of 3'' loads??. thanks for any info!!!!!!!! :P

3,000 rounds is kinda low on the expectations scale :-). A good shotgun should hold up to a lot more than that.  ;) Which Daly are you talking about?  I've got the MaxiMag Pump, and in all honesty I would recommend something different.  The gun has a very "cheap" feel to it and I've some problems with it snapping on rounds (more than likely a weak hammer spring).   Everyone I know who as bought their autoloaders has had to go through 2 or 3 of them (returning defectives) before getting one that would cycle reliably.  

If you have to get something under $200, the Mossberge Maverick 88 would probably serve you better (runs $159 at Wal-mart).  If you can splurge just a bit more though, the Winchester 1300 ($235) and the Remington 870 ($249) are both SUPERB pumps.

It's hard to beat the Mossberg for under 200 bucks. Decades worth of proof out there. Extra barrels are cheap, too.

Don't buy the Daly

I have one as we speak that is at KBI for repairs.  It is a maxi mag as well. It was one day old before I had to box it up.  The cheap price suckered me.  The gun cycles good but has a weak hammer spring and shells don't detonate. 10 duds out of 25 shells.  It was too unreliable so I had to send it back.  Will report later on their customer service.  Get a Mossy or Remington used/ It would serve you better. :(

EXACT problem I've having with mine.  I had the POS snap on several ducks one morning this year when I decided to take out out.  I swear it just about went overboard that morning I was so ticked with it.  

Maybe I'll go ahead and sent mine in too.  I did fill out the lifetime warranty card I got.  Either way I've only had it for 4 or 5 months now.

Fedx wants you to go through a license dealer.  There are only drop boxes here in Aiken, SC.  They acted like it was a bomb at Staples.  I went to the UPS store and mailed it.  FedX wants you to be home 9-5 on a workday with no idea when they will show up.  My gun cycles smoother than my 870 and sure ejects better and is much lighter.  I wish I had spent the extra $60 and bought a Mossy 835.  I hope I can get the hammer fixed, nice to see a fellow Sandlapper.

If you're interested in a semiauto take a look at the one EMF, Inc. has on their website. It's Turkish made and has beautiful walunut on it. Barely over $200. I think it's made by Huglu (sp) and they make some really nice low priced guns. If I needed another shotgun I'd buy one in a heart beat but dang I've got more than I shoot now.

Looks just like a Verona to me. H&R is importing them this year to their line. These guys must be dumping inventory. It says $219, but when you add one to your cart it goes to $279 + $18 for shipping. They also have a 1-800 number for ordering.

I don't know why my old user name no longer works.. anyway My gun has been gone five days and it arrived today.  they fixed it plus included a  free turkey choke.  That was as quick turn around as you could have asked.  Their customer service is top notch in my book.  Kudos to Charles Daly and their customer service.

dingleberry: Did you have to send in your receipt with it?  I noticed when looking over their warranty claims that they state you need a receipt when sending in for warranty work.

They didn't even ask for it.  I guess it is because I,m lucky. A Mr. Gamble at KBI took care of it for me.  He used to live in Aiken, SC.  Small world.....Don't hesitate to send it in they are nice folks.

Charles Daly's are cheap and do not hold up, especially to a lot of shooting.  For 250, you can get a rem 870, or a used one for 150.  They are a lot more reliable.
