ok guys i dont know much about airguns but i do normal rifles what is the distance for a 1000 fps hunting pellet rifle in 17 caliber how far would you sight the scope in for overal best results i sighted it in 25 ft dead on but when i shoot 20 yards i shoot way over the target. thnx for the help and if anyone knows a quick method of how to sight it in so high at a close range id apreciate it yard isnt that big and alot of shots are shooting into the trees at starling

If your scope is about 1.5"(average) above the line of bore on your rifle then sight in at 12 yards and you will be close at about 40 yards.  This is using a 8.09 gr. Beeman H&N pellet.  Now there can be many different variables but this should put you in the ballpark.  Lawdog

k so those beman pellets prety nice? rightnow im using 8 grain hyper velocity hunting pointed pellets from copperhead. Im new to this so what you think would be a better upgrade in pellets i get nice groups with these i tried some crossman hallow points and they skatter to much so i stuck with the pointed tips the hallows were not consistant.

It pays to experiment with all sorts of pellets to find what a gun likes.  Like 22 LR guns, pellet guns often have a preference.  But for serious accuracy at distance it seems the really knowledgable guys generally prefer domed pellets ( round nose not pointed).  An outfit called Straight Shooters sells sampler sets in .177, .20, .22, and maybe .25 cals.  I think there is about 36 different types (25 of each) in the .177 kit.  Look for them with Google.  Crosman Premiers both heavy and light and Beeman FTS are popular with many shooters.  I think RWS may offer smaller sampler kits of their pellets but don't know where to buy them - might try with some of the Gray Beard advertisers.  Good luck.
