Did I read that ALL new Handi's have extractors...

Did I read somewhere that all new production Handi's now come with extractors, not ejectors??

Or was I dreaming that up...

So far, from my new purchase of a .204 ruger and someone else's report on the new 22-250, they are the only 2 that have the extractor and 95roadking's 204 has an ejector, IIRC! Mac called H&R and they explained that all new H&R rifles will eventually have extractors when they run out of ejector underlugs. There's a big difference in the 2 as you can see from the pic....old style on the bottom.....

Perklo, forgot to thank you for your wonderful instructions on the trigger work, thanks!

Also, the extractor is mechanical, not spring driven, so it is positive, should end the stuck case problem...

They can't, the underlug it totally different, they would have to cut the old lug off and weld a new lug on. Best we can do is convert the ejector to spring driven extractor which is what I did on my 45-120 BC....that brass is too expensive to throw around!!

Shucks, you're welcome quickdtoo. I need to get off my *brains* and finish updating all the pages on my website, then add in the new "Supplies" and "Links" sections. I'm about half through with a new full-scale project (Marlin 336 trigger job) as well, but I never have any free time anymore...

It's a shame to have to work for a living!

Careful with that trigger job, Perklo!  I bought an older 336 which had a hitch to the trigger.  I merely stoned the seer and the full cock notch and trigger pull became scarily light.  I ended up making the notch a touch deeper and roughed it up some to feel safer with it.  Of course you are reading the experiences of a guy who is used to an Winchester 88....

EJECTOR/EXTRACTOR

OK guys, I know I am not the only guy who reads this that doesn't under stand.  I know the ejector shoots the shell out when you break open to re-load on a shotgun.  I just thought it was the same on the Handi.  How will it react differently with the EXTRACTOR.

A converted ejector or the extractor as it comes from H&R will just raise the cartridge, empty or fired, out of the chamber about a 1/4" or less so the shooter can pluck the cartridge out in their fingers instead of chasing it, or better yet, getting hit with the empty after firing it when the action pops open!

That's what I thought it was.  That will certainly save on the labor when you are ready to re-load them, less dents and such.
Thanks

Shucks, I like the ol ejector.  I always figured if I had to shoot somethin close and dangerous with the 45/70 and the durn thing kept coming...I'd just wait until it got a bit closer and eject the empty at 'em.  That should stun em long enough for me to either reload or (better) run.  Lord knows when I ding one off my head, I don't move right away.

My wife gave me 30-06 and .300 Win Mag barrels for my Encore.  I don't carry that thing in the woods one main reason is it has extractors not ejectors.  I carry my 30-06 Handi, just in case I need to make a follow-up shot rapidly I can do it.  With that Handi if I need to when I open it the empty is gone, all I have to do is drop in a fresh round, close it and fire.  Yes I reload and catch my brass at the range, but while hunting brass is expendiable.

Extractor need not be slower than ejectior.  You just drop the action down rather than the barrel Barrel is pointed up and the case drops free as it is extracted.

Certainly a lot faster than digging out a cleaning rod and putting it together to get a stuck case out.
