"To Texas we will go.........."

The better half just told me I could go to Texas this fall for a pig hunt!!  I will be in the DFW area around October, but who knew that some good news could raise about a million questions?

Can I take my guns on the plane?  What about ammo (handloads)?  How about the weather - shorts or long underwear?  30-06 or 243?  You know, I am only asking for the answers to EVERY question imaginable.  This will be my first hunt in Tx and also my first hog hunt.

Her Gramps lives in Lake Dallas, so I am assuming he knows where to go, but maybe some of you locals could give me some advice.

To Texas we will go, to Texas we weill go, to get myself a hog or two, to Texas we will go! :music:

I'm about 90 miles north of Dallas in Okla.and the weather is about the same,it can be 20 degrees in the morn.and 75 later in the day. It can be snowing one day and 75 the next day. I would bring the 30 06 with some hot handloads, (180 grs. ) because there has been some very large hogs taken from Dallas area north. 450 pds. and Up.  Digger

You can take guns on the plane as checked baggage in a locked hardside guncase. Ammo is also acceptable in original packaging or the plastic boxes. I would not bother mentioning handloads. Your case must be locked, and you are the only person able to have a key. However TSA will want your case unlocked so they can inspect it. Call your airline or check their website for more info and individual airline policies.
   And Good Luck.

Book you a hunt at the BIG WOODS and you will have a good time and probably get a pig or two and could kill a sure nuff hog!!! Take the 30-06 with 180gr bullets and you will be fine. Rem or Win factory loads work just fine. The BIG WOODS in just south of Dallas towards Corsicana.
