Sight replacement
« on: February 24, 2005, 03:12:42 AM »
I want to replace the front sight on my 1895 CB.  I have a new shorter front sight from Marlin.  Does it matter which side to drive the sight out?  Also, I would like to replace the rear sight with a blank.  Anyone know if Marlin has premade blanks that are a perfect fit, or will I have to file it down to match the barrel and blue it.
Thanks

I found a blank made by Lyman for my 1895. I printed the web page (Midway, I think) and brought it to my local gun shop. He actually had one laying around. It still needed a little work to get a proper fit. It came blued. I beleive I had to drive the sight out through the right-hand side.

You want to drive it out by placing a brass rod on the left side and taking the sight out the right side.  Install by putting the sight in the right side and pushing to the left.  The Lyman dovetail blanks are as good as any.

Lyman sight blanks are steel, while the Williams are aluminum.  It makes a difference when it comes time to blue it if you file it to match the barrel.

Thanks for the information.  I ass-ume left and right are from the shooters perspective as apposed to the business end perspective.  Thanks again.  Back to the Midway web site to spend more money.
