Defeating the crossbolt safety.....
« on: January 15, 2005, 05:56:28 PM »
I heard somewhere that there is a plug available commercially that replaces the crossbolt safety on Marlin rifles. I'd like some more information on this, so if anyone can steer me to a manufacturer, supplier, or any additional information,  I'd appreciate it.

Looks to me like my 1895GS already has a half cock safety, so it would seem the conversion may not be a safety issue.....or, am I wrong about that?

thanks for input

Acouple of other options that are cheep and easy to do.

1)  Put a rubber O ring over the safety when it it "off" and it will keep it that way until you remove the O ring.

2) Remove the butt stock and with the safety again in the "off" position there's a small hole on the left side of the receiver where the butt stock mates up to it.  There's a screw in there for the detent ball of the safety.  Just screw it in more until the safety will not move back to the "on' positon.

The advantages to these methods are that they are easliy reversable if you ever wanted to do that for hunting or selling to someone else.

Good luck,

Long hunter shooting supplies makes them. Lemme see if I can post a link.  http://www.longhunt.com/action_work/action_work.shtml#marlin

This part is easily put in or removed if you want to put the saftey back in. Remove the butstock & one screw, 10 minutes tops.
