Weaver #91 base
« on: February 05, 2005, 02:43:39 AM »
Can anyone suggest a source for some Weaver #91 bases that are higher then the standard ones offered by Weaver. The #91's have the correct contour to fit my Anschutz 64 but I want to go at least double the height of the originals.
I'm already using the highest mounts I can get which measure 1.375 from the Weaver 'V' to the centerline of the scope.
The distance I currently have from the top of the receiver to the underside of the scope is 1.125. I would like to get it at 1.5 minimum. Thanks for any help.

Can't point you at a source for bases made by any major manufacturer but there's a fellow in east Texas who makes custom bases that take Weaver rings. Any height you want and with or without downslope. About $65.
PM me if you want his email address.
Also, of course, Marvin Pearson -- who posts here -- will make you a custom mount. He's higher priced but the quality is unsurpassed...

ppk1, you're at the top end for weaver mounts.  You could try using an elevated one piece weaver base, and then mount the highest weaver rings to the base.  Or, try usng the BKL mounts. Isn't there a height restriction for scopes in Sil comp?
Are we going to see you at Hendrick Hudson this year?  Joe

Joe, Yes, I'm aware of the scope height dimensions on both the standard and hunter classes.
Is the Hendrick schedule the one listed under Albany in SSUSA ?

ppk1, yes to the Albany SSUSA.  Just look for info by Dick Dorman.  If you shot there last year, you should be receiving this year's info in the mail.  My guess is that it will be mailed sometime in March, as the first shoot is in April.
I just got done reading the most recent digest from the Thompson Contender group on yahoo.  There was a posting about this guy "Ken Lewis" (?), who builds custom scope mounts (1"-12") high (his custom "TACO" hold scope mounts for pistol shooters).  Let me know if you want me to scout it up for you.  Joe

Joe, Thanks for the offer to check out scope bases but Nomad hooked me up with a guy in Texas who builds them for a great price. I sent him my specs yesterday.
Don't know about Albany this year the wife (just retired) and I have some extensive road trips planned this summer and I will be shooting a lot of the southern NY and northern PA matches.
You ought to try the PA states in August at Ridgway. Always a good time.
Pete

Hi Pete, We've been to the 2 Nationals in PA (Ridgeway and Milroy).  Nice people and fun times. Wanted to make Jacksonville this year, but it doesn't look good.  Maybe we can hit matches closer to home.  Best Wishes, Joe

Pete, glad to hear you found a source.  I messed up the guy's name.  It is Ken Light, not "Lewis".  Here's his link if you want to check it out for future reference.  www.kenlightmfg.com/products.html
