I am looking for input from anyone who has used Hodgdon Varget for either .223 or 30.06. I am considering it for my Rem 700bld 30.06 as well as my 14in and 16in .223 contender barrels. I would like to try 150gr in the .06 and 40gr in the .223's. Thanks.

If you go to Hodgdon's website, click on data, select rifle, scroll down to 30.06, it'll give you loads, including Varget, for 150gr; 165gr; & 180gr bullets. I think the 150gr uses 51.5grs of Varget, but that's max, so I'd start @ 5grs below that & work up. I'm using it in my Rem. Varmint Synthetic-.308 caliber. With 44grs under a 150gr bullet I'm getting 1" groups @ 200yds. Yes, that's 200yds! Great Stuff!!!!!!!jd45.

I like Varget in the .223 up to 50 gr. I have gotten 3/8 in. groups on a 14" Contenter with this powder with 45 gr bullets. Heavier bullets do not work as well.

I'm using Varget with 50gr Nosler BT's and #400 CCI primers in my H&R .223 Ultra; they're the most accurate loads I've found to date. 3/4 MOA using an informal rest; I'm anxious to try them from a bench.

I've run varget in a 30.06 pushing 165 gr. bullets, no complaints.

I have used Varget in .223 for 40 grain Noslers and it is excellent. However, there are other powders that will give higher velocity, if that is your objective. What it does give you is consistent velocity at any temperature, good accuracy, and easy metering.

Hi i like Varget for my 22 250 36.5 grs and a Nosler 55gr BT my 22 250 will rat hole them at a 100 yrds VM

Varget is a very accurate powder,measures well, many bench shooters would agree, does not seem to be sensitive to extreme temps, I have used it in my 30/06 & my scoped Marlin 450 guidegun, I found it to be a very good mild load for the 450 guidegun, I used 57gr of varget, basically fills the case, got this load from hornady, since there was not a load listed using a Hornadys 350gr interlock, only a 400gr bullet using Varget. I was running around 1800 fps with cloverleaf accuracy at 100 yards, the same goes for the 30/06, using 180gr sst's & 150gr Interlocks & 180gr Vmax, shot one hole all day at 100 yards using the scoped 30/06. I was turned on to Varget from a old bench shooter years ago, I always have some in my house;) Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

I just got in from shooting my handloads for my 30-06 with 125gr. barnes-x and varget powder. It didn't like 54.7grns. at all. But it absolutely loved 56grns. I couldn't believe the accuracy I got from my rem.700 with that combo. I don't know what a little more would do.

I load it in my .270 and 30/06. It ain't the fastest propellent you'll find, but 47 grains of Varget with 180 gr. Gamekings is my "go to" load for my Ruger#1.

It's also good in 7mm-08 w/ 140 gr. bullets, and with 168 gr. bullets in my son's .308.

Varget works great in the 223 loads that I have worked up for my AR-15.
Seems to work great up to a 55gr Hornady spirepoint.
I only reload up to this weight bullet in 223.
Not sure if it is any good for the heavier 223 bullets (62 to 80 gr) as I dont reload them.
