I was wondering which caliber do you prefer 9mm or 40 S&W?
What are your likes and dislikes and how do you find it for reloading.

I have owned both, but I prefer the 45ACP. I voted for the 9mm due to the popularity of the round.  :D

I voted for the 9mm.  The 9mm is a good inexpensive to shoot range gun and works well in compact carry guns. I prefer the 45ACP over both the 40 & 9mm. I have no use for the 40.

Edit:  I reload for the 9mm, but with the low cost of range ammo, ($77k) at Academy Sports, I have not loaded any in quite some time. The 40 S&W ammo is about the same price as 45 ACP ammo, another negative.

I choose hidden option # 3, the .45. But if I only had a choice between the choices 1 & 2 it would be the 9mm. Reason is cheap ammo for lots of blasting.

:cb2: I voted for the .40, but that was because I was thinking self-defense round. The 9mm makes a great plinking round because it is so cheap, but I don't want to have to shoot someone 3 or 4 times to stop him. That's why I carry either a .45, or a .357. The only 9s I have are my Ruger Convertibles, and again, that's for cheap plinking.

I'll take either a 9mm or a .40 -- if I can have it in .45. :)

Own both, like both.  But I carry the .40S&W (Glock 22 & 27) all the time.  I like that I have the "high capacity" of the 9mm but with a bigger hole

When it comes to shooting though, the 9mm is much cheaper on the wallet!

Of the two choices, I went with the 9mm - because so many of my favorite hitorical pistols are chambered in it.
For defense, I have my .45ACP.

Put me with the others that would pick a 45acp........I chose the 9mm in the poll due to the greater number of problems with 40 chambered guns than I have seen with the 9mm.........if the gun was designed for the 40 from the beginning and fuctions well then "bigger is better" to my way of thinking.....so back to the 45acp....hahaha.........but I do love the feel and fuction of my old 9mm Hi Power........good luck and good shooting!!

Thanks for the posts.
I should have stated that I already own a .45 acp and like it but I was looking to buy another gun and was wondering which of the two 9mm or 40 S&W was liked more or more popular and how you found it to reload.

I own guns chambered for both calibers.  I voted for the 9mm.  If you've already got a .45 than the 9mm's gonna be cheaper for a plinker, if that's what you're after.  Good luck whatever you choose.

Evan Marshall wrote an article for one of the gun magazines a few years ago.  It was entitled "Carry a Nine and You'll Be Fine".  He qualified that by saying "as long as you use the right ammo".  He recommended either Corbon  or some other +P+ 115gr ammo.  I picked the 9mm because of the two guns I have chambered for it...a customized Belgian Browning High Power and a Colt AR-15.
