Ultra hunter barrel and standard barrel...
« on: February 11, 2005, 04:45:00 AM »
I was looking at info on the H&R website and was wondering what are the real differences between the standard barrel and the ultra hunter barrels. I was looking at the ultra in .270, it says it is 23" and the standard is listed as 22", is there a diffrence in taper as well?? Other differences?
Thx guys,
R

The taper and weight are different between the 2...they once offered a 24" Ultra Comp barrel...that was a 23" barrel with a 1" thread on muzzle brake...and now they just leave it unthreaded and sans the brake to come up with the 23" they offer...also...with the ultra barrel you get the longer scope rail with the locking set screw out on the end...a much better set up if you ask me...it makes it a-lot easier to place longer scopes on the rail for proper eye relief and all...

I have the 30-06 Ultra-Comp...and am waiting anxously for my 270 Ultra-Comp in the mail...I really like the longer barrels over the standard barrels...and I guess I one of the weird ones... cause..I like the muzzle brakes as well :)

Thx, I recently saw a 30.06 ultra comp, .270 ultra comp and a .223 all with scopes for sale on gunsamerica, it was $675 for the three gun package. I debated about getting it too long and now it is gone!! I wish I would have just gone for it, I didn't need three guns, but could certainly use three guns and sell my Ruger bolt to fund the purchase!!!
