.270 bullets
« on: February 16, 2005, 03:48:02 PM »
I would like to hunt in N.H, vermont or maine this year for moose(if i win a tag). I've been reading alot about it and they say that a 270 is big enough for moose. So what i need is a good 150gr bullet that will do the job. I shoot 130gr sierra's out of it for whitetails right now but i don't think 130gr is big enough for moose.

Thanks,
DB

The 130 is a great bullet, but has a lighter jacket, and a moose is a big animal, so you'll want penetration. I'd choose a nosler 150 grain partition, they are utterly reliable, and are monotonously consistent.

My vote goes to the 160 grain Nosler Partition in .270 caliber.  Great sectional density. Great penetration.  Nosler reliability.

I've used Nosler partitions in the 270 for decades with great success.  You will be well served with them.

doublebeard,

I am shooting 130 gr. Barnes TSX's in my .270 WSM with great results.  Thing is they penetrate as well or better than my old stand by 150 gr. Nosler Partition's.  Barnes is making a 140 and a new 150 gr. version of the TSX which should penetrate even better.  Combine that with the excellent accuracy and Barnes is swaying me away from Partitions(which I used faithfully since the 1960's).  Why not give them a try?  Lawdog
