Hey all I have a question my gun dealer that sold me my Handi .223 also gave me a box of 64 grain soft points and said to keep these until deer season and use them. Number 1 I would never consider shooting a white tail with a 223 and the owners manual says because of the twist the rifle will not stabilize bullets over 55 grs. It doesnt sound like my gun dealer knows to much about the Handi .223 or is he right? Just curious Thanks! Jimmy

I've read that a lot here about the heavier bullets in the .223. I've seen many threads indicating the lighter bullets have better accuracy. Personally, I would not shoot a deer with the .223 with any grain bullet. Just my 2 cents. Regards, Ambush

There are a few here that have had good luck with some 55 and 60 gr .223 loads, but not very many. The best shooting round for most is the winchester white box 45gr JHP, definately not a bug game bullet, though.

I think you will find that anything over 55 grains in the 223 will not shoot very good. Thats what most of us have found out. The Handi 223 has a 1/12 twist barrel which should, I say should, stabilize up to about 63 grains, but we have not found that to be true. If you are not going to handload, just get the WW Econopak of 40, get the 45 grain JHP loads, not the 55 grain loads. It is about $11.50 to $12.50 at most discount stores.

I can honestly say I have tried ALL weights avaible for the 1-12 twist Handi Rifel.

The results are pretty standard. Did good with 40gr. Did BEST with 55gr. and did ok with 63 gr. And that PARTICULAR 63gr. was designed specifically for the 1-12 twist.

You are getting good advice here - trust us, we've tried it all

Just for kicks, after you polish the bore, barrel and clean the ejector mech. then make sure it shoots the 45gr stuff real good, let us know how well the 64gr loads DO shoot in your gun.

I bought some winchester cxp1 55gr soft points anyone have a clue how these will shoot, the weather here is not cooperating with me so i havnt been able to do much shooting.
or should i pawn these 55gr softies off and go for the white box 45grers i have used them before.

My handloads with 55gr Hornadays/Noslers BT's shoot very well in my .223 NEF. Thats all I shoot for coyotes.
